Aerodynamic trucks such as the Volvos are gaining in value as the price of fuel keeps increasing. Owner-operators are coming into dealerships to trade-in the old big square trucks for more modern and comfortable with better fuel economy.
Volvo has made a lot of progress in recent years, and right now they are topping the list of used trucks values

    Would a 670 with a ISX Cummins 400 h.p. 3.36 ratio and 10 speed be a dog
on the hills pulling a full load.

Yes. Truck is short on horse power. 3.36 ratio is a little high concidering the lack of hp. Just my opinion based on what I drive. I have a 515 Detroit 3.58 rears and a 10 speed.

Despite my love for Petes, I still have a soft spot for Volvos. With the ISX400, you get it tuned up to 500HP. A salesman once told me that upgrade your tranny on newer trucks. If you can do this, I would uprate one to a 13spd for all around durability and up the hp to 500. Also, most trucks with a ISX400 have either a 9spd convertible to a 13spd or a 10spd. Also the transmission torque is usually 1650 which is what the ISX500 is rated for.

    as posted by wallbanger:
Other than that, the only other major complaint centers around the air horn being activated by a car-like horn button, in the center of the airbag equipped steering wheel (instead of a lanyard-There are two small buttons on the wheel for the city horn). If you sometimes do your logs behind the wheel (like yours truly), you can set off the horn inadvertantly (making you REAL popular at 0300 in the truck stop!).

This is what I have. It's a 2006. It is the "C" model transmision, and an ISX bumped to 450hp. What this does, for me, is give me low rpm in cruising road conditions. But, when I'm gonna hit a hard pull, I just get ready to drop to ninth as soon as I hit 60 mph. It will, in most east side cases, pull right on up, and hang around 14-15 on the tach. The thing I like about the 10speed tranny? Eaton gives a much better warranty on the 10s than the 13s and up. I suppose there is something to this.

I really cannot complain about the good visibality from the drivers seat. Plenty of room to stand up in (I am 6' 2"). Quiet when driving. Smooth ride. And overall driver comfort. What I can complain about is the plastic feel of the whole truck. The way the plastic squeaks after 40,000 miles. And that odd feeling that the truck is wandering down the road. This is all from a driver view.

As a mechanic I have nothing good to say about Volvos. I abosolutly hate those trucks. I hate to work on them. Everything is hard to get to. When the airbags deflate you can not get under them. I only weigh 183 pounds, I am a skinny guy and I rub the fuel tanks when I get under one. Electrical problems are getting better unless the truck is older. An older co worker of mine (also a mechanic/driver) says that Volvos are good, for the first 400,000 miles. Then they are junk.
