Does anybody know where to get a decent quality HID kit? I'm sick of my low beam being so dim I can't see. Are there kits that are plug and play or do they have to be spliced into the headlight wiring?

What year VNL? I've driven 2015/16 VNL's and am now in a '23 and the stock LED headlights are outstanding. Maybe change out your present headlights to stock LED from Volvo? I'm sure it won't be cheap.......

I have a 2013. The guy I brought the truck from touted having "super bright LED headlights". High beams sure, light up the sky and give me an almost x ray vision of oncoming traffics body's. Low beams? Ha. I wouldn't be able to see a white hog cross the black asphalt.

TO be legal, if you have a projection lamp, then you can use LED or HID lights, if you have the conventional lamp unit, then you have to stick to the regular lamps.

Don't forget the bright lights also blind people if there are crap lights, spend the money and do it right.

It has the protection lamp. But I think the chrome reflection is gone like I've read on some other posts. Not sure if that was factory or not, but I have to do something to fix the poor lighting issue.

I had replaced my horrible lights in the 2014 I had and cost $1829.01 with some that required a quick up date on ECM but was plug and play. They were great on the low and highs. Ran most of the time on low and had no problems. I hate driving at night if I cannot see so it was a must for me. I will try and find out what the name of them was. I did get them from the dealer in KCMO (Nextran) Used to be Westfall. IMG_1957.jpeg

I appreciate the info. There was an old thread that the person who mentioned HID headlamps said he got a kid for $80. That solved his problems but he hasn't been on here in years according to his profile so doubt he ever replies to that thread. $1800 seems steep but I guess if that's the route I have to go then I have no choice.

You can buy the cheaper ones as well but these are OEM style that come from a OEM supplier. I had bought a pair from Iowa 80 that had great lights as well. Only problem with them they did not last but about 6 months. They had broke and moved around inside the light assembly. Those were these Volvo VNL Blackout LED Projector Headlights but they would freeze over. On the OEM ones they had the Daytime Run lights on was a regular light bulb so it would keep the area warm and not freeze.

Are your housings crystal clear and not fogged over? I had a ‘14 and they were hazed. New OEM housings made all the difference in the world.

Are your projectors properly aimed? On my current T680, I had one that was shining up into the trees. I adjusted the other one down further onto the road, then, brought down the one from the trees to match the other. That made all the difference. I have pretty good lights, now.

I’m contemplating buying a set of whiter halogen bulbs, but, the whiter the Kelvin, the shorter the bulb’s lifespan. I drive a lot at night, so decreased longevity is a big deal.

With me the yellow old style lighting I just cant see much. With the LED lights I can see all the details in shadow areas/ DEER and other critters of the night. I was driving my 14 right outside of Salt Lake City going back to MO in the middle of nite and almost hit a few deer. Scared the hell out of me because I did not see them at all until I was right on them. That night I decided the cost of LED was not much compared to a wrecked truck. Bought the ones I posted a link to above and loved them a lot until it was winter time. They froze over and I had to stop to clean them off. Then one day I was driving and seen my lights jumping and shooting up into the trees. The clips that hold the ELD assembly broke off in both lights. I had to throw those lights in the trash and got the OEM ones and will never buy another kind of LED for truck.
