Did you use the ignition switch with the key when you started it or did you bypassed the ignition and went straight to the starter?

I bypassed the ignition and went straight to the starter. The truck starts and runs fine but it does not want to shut off, I have to disconnect the batteries and alternator.

Are you trying to turn off the truck using the ignition switch?

Are there relays under the dash console that control sending the signal to the starter?

Is The starter replacement have a relay with the both coil ends isolate ? What by pass you did ? Is your truck is manual transmission or Volvo I Shift ?

Possibilities, ignition relay, ignition switch, ignition fuses.

Do your gauges sweep and work when you key on? If so your fuses are probably good. But you may have more than one ignition fuse. I’d replace all for good measure. Next i would check at the ignition relay. Unplug the relay. Test for power going into the plug while someone turns the key. If your getting power to the relay, id change the relay. Halfway in this starter video (around the 4min mark) I talk about changing the relay on a gen1 vnl. Mine was on the outside firewall, drivers side.
