7.42? u r nuts? 3.42 or taller is good w/13 or 18 speed. 10 is ok, i guess. I'm looking at 3.55 w/13 spd 500hp. would have liked a 3.42 or 3.36 rear better.

That's the smartest post I've read yet! Reminds me of listening to my in-laws argue Ford or Chevy! Sooner or later they all break down. Buy something you will be comfortable in, because that's where you are going to live! If you like the Volvo, then by all means don't let self-professed experts tell you different. I for one am buying a Volvo 780. Nicest truck I've been in. I would steer clear of the Volvo engine and opt for a detriot. Cummins has priced themselves out. Just my two cents worth. Oh by the way before they start in...I drove for around 10 yrs, have been a diesel mechanic in my own heavy truck shop for the last 15 and am going back out on the road this spring. So yeah I do think I've forgotten more than some think they know. Just for giggles, I will add that my mom drove for 35 yrs, the last 10 in a Volvo

i HAVE an'07 780 3.55 differential, 13sp..... drives/runs OK, but at 79K pounds, in the modest hills it would be nice to have more power to avoid downshifting .
I do have to get it to Cummins to find out why the power isn't there in the upper gears on the hwy,
plenty of power available till say...8th/9th gear and above..
Not the fastest truck, I don't drive fast anyway,
but gets pretty good fuel mileage...
most of the time 6.7 to 8 mpg when loaded.
crusinMagnum1 Thanks this. -

.2006 because of egr.i'l tell you 2007 you can't do anyting aboute it.2006 you can disconected, 2007 not posible difrent system.
-
you mean the 2008 truck with the 2007 engine? because 207 trucks have 2006 engine. I think.
-
That, I know, is correct.

I went thru this several months ago and ended up with an '06 780 with 440k. I love it and have driven other Volvos. I stayed away from the '07 because of the newer engine. I get better economy than the '07 or newer.
Interstate has '06/'07's coming off lease and if you search you can find these with less than 450k on them.
