Very typical in this company. They know exactly how long everything is suppose to take but not out there. Was the run heading towards his home?If companies really wanted to they could find swaps, they could also look for a load days before his hometime too.

A husband's first commitment to a family is to provide support for that family. Sometimes that requires sacrifices. There will be times a driver will have to put things on hold. He will miss weddings and funerals and birthday parties. That is the way of the industry.

I am curious as to what the family commitment was. Not that it matters but it will matter to the boss. There are certain family matters that are protected by law. All others are optional.
Cussing out someone is grounds for termination. In this nation you do not need grounds but cussing out someone will get you fired from a Union job. He needs to get his temper under control and his family needs to lower the pressure on him to be two places at once.

Let me ask: you can't afford for your "man" to be without a job, but his home time/family commitment was so important and stressed him so much he ended up yelling at a (probably a dispatch person first, then moved straight downward toward the unemployment line?) company employee? Ever heard of the abuse protocols at the Company? Anyway, I don't want to be mean, and I've had this issue enough to say I'm not without some blame myself (did a little gentle yelling). The truth is, if you work for a company, they don't make any promise to get you home on any specific date and time, they just promise best effort. If it's an emergency, they'll relay your load. Some will even get you a shuttle to an airport.

Truth. You can't have it both ways. If the job is that important, tell the family "I'll be there close to xxx." If it's worth quitting for, quit. If you can't quit, don't yell at the dispatcher or he/she'll do it for you. Working as a company driver - that's what it is. You can be independent, but not in their truck pulling their customer's loads. Some companies are better than others at helping drivers try to maintain a life. Hang in there. This too shall pass.

3 months: GPS "told him" ticket, 1 preventable accident, cussed out DM...I would be worried.

OP ... just deal with whatever happens and consider it fate and a sign. It's tough out here when you're new and learning all the ropes and figuring out the gotcha's. The prior ticket in and of itself should not be a problem if it's already been dealt with. Once a new driver crosses a certain threshold [that comes sooner for some drivers then others] he will either realize trucking is not his thing or he will have reached a point where he can get through days and weeks easier and easier as experience begins to accumulate.

Don't worry about it and don't let some of the others here get you down. Trucking is full of things that can make life frustrating if trying to maintain something that resembles a family life, especially in the beginning and until he learns how to work the "system" at a given company.

Does he have a CB??? Can ask truckers in area if can go on that road. I don't use GPS. Have been lost before. It happens. Call customers for directions on way in that is what I do.

maps show the roads that truckers don't need to be taking. i don't think he's done too much that would get him fired at this point but he needs to cool it and not get anymore tickets or accidents. and everyone knows that you shouldn't cuss your dispatcher because they can make your life hell if you get on their bad side.
