I've been waiting longer than he has (by a few days) but I certainly don't feel screwed. It is what it is, there just aren't a lot of flatbed mentors. They told me if I want van I can go immediately.
Waiting for a trainer?

Thanks for all the replies guys and gals. I got a call about an hour ago telling me to get with my trainer on Monday. Yippie!! Dang, I thought I was going to go broke waiting.
I will clarify that it is SWIFT flatbed that I will be going to. Some of you figured that out already even though I didnt mention it in my post. (You folks are good! LoL)
I knew going into this that Swift has only 400 500 flatbed drivers. That isnt a large amount of drivers for a very large company. Most of Swift is Dry Van. I knew it may take a week or 2 to get a trainer but could not have known that out of 17 people in my orientation class, 5 were experienced drivers, and 7 newbies were there for flatbed. The Swift folks that taught the class said that was very unusual. Most of the time they only had 2 or 3 flatbed people per class. Then having the DM take 1 ½ weeks off work for vacation has caused this slow down in getting trainers available. All I can hope at this point is things start to get a bit better.
Im looking forward to getting on the road. Get my driving hrs in and get as much over all education as I can before I get my own truck. I know I have a huge amount to learn and Im up for the challenge.Texas-Nana Thanks this. -
Good Luck to you and Be safe.

Start stashing away money now if you are planning to buy a truck. This way you will have a nice cushion for when things go wrong. Another thing you can do is run your truck as if you were already owner operator and see how you do.
Make sure to watch out for power lines when you are on top of your load tarping and throwing straps. Sorry, I had a close call one time so I always throw this tip out there to new flatbedders. Above all advice have fun out there! Good luck!

That's good advice. When I get in my company truck I'll start looking at the options for tracking all reciepts and monies. I would like to get my own truck in the future but, as of now, I have no real plans.
Again, Thank you to all who have replied.chompi Thanks this. -
Congrats stickbow, keep us updated. I also got a call from drivers services today but it was late and they were gone before I could call them back.
