started CDL school yesterday... it was great. had an instructor that has 20+ years over the road driving for Fed-Ex knows his stuff but willingly shares it. couldnt sleep much last night...mind kept wandering about school (excited) talk to ya'll when i can.

well..one down two weeks to go...took my written tests today...passed em all. im good to go for everything but bus which i didnt wanna do. next two weeks all we do is pre-trips manuvers and drive. only two of us in the class i should get alot of drive time. getting closer to being a greenhorn....yessssss >--->

well in my second week...got sent home early today due to snow and ice so i thought i'd stop in and say hi and get ya all up to date (like anyone cares anyway) i have done all the backing manuvers it seems okay. had to drive to the practice pad today from our school which is 40 min away. wasnt supposed to drive until tonight but the other guy hadnt slept due to a family emergency so i got elected. can anyone say "sweaty palms" didnt really mind driving and upshifting at all. it was the downshifting and the instructor yelling do this do that.... good god it was crazy. clutch neutral gas clutch gear... i was like what the hey?! i cant remember all that, i got so much going on i'll forget to hit the brake pedal. he would purposely have me slow down in a 55mph zone just to practice downshifting...one time i had a sherriff behind me....i said hes gonna pull me over...the instructor said dont worry bout him do what i tell ya! im gonna have nightmares about downshifting. he said i did good for my first time but i dunno...seemed like i sucked to me......but i will say the semi driver behind me was really patient and nice. thank god. ive said it before and ill say it again.......truck drivers dont get paid enough! wish me luck....till next time >--->
LawDawg Thanks this. -
Don't sweat the down shifting. It will come in time. Just take a deep breath and relax over it.

Don't let the down shifting get you down. In time it will come. Will be days when you forget what range or what gear you are in even years down the road it happens. Thing to do is take it one gear at a time. In no time you will get the hang of it. -
thanks notarps thats why i come here....one big family .........gotta say though haven't met any in-laws yettt well at least not any that im aware of.....i guess...legally or whatnot...i'll shut up.

well of course as all said...the drivings getting easier (bunch of knowitalls) anyway my second day of driving was better than the first and the third was better than the second (like that would surprise anyone) but anyway wanted to comment on manuvers.getting sick of em... me legs gettin wored out! do em all ok.... not perfect on the paralleling but getting better...every time i get used to this tractor and 48 ft trailer they throw me in that tractor and 53 ft trailer... it takes a min to figure out your spots all over again....im tired and me leg is wored out. love the drivin part........if i didnt have a kid i beleive i would live on the road and never go home.

well two weeks down two split weeks ( due to the holidays ) to go. all we are doing now is driving every day with one pre-trip everyday and bout an hour of manuevers. drove in everything friday from raining sideways to high winds and then getting on a highway...they had us drive down to where we're going to take our test... i dunno looks pretty tough. i wasnt driving at that time as three of us were taking turns but the guy driving was barely getting around alot of the turns and we only had a 48' trailer. oh well i got six days of driving to get it figured out. hope to see ya'll on the road...if all goes as planned i should be on the road mid-january.
