I keep thinking there’s going to be a week with no increase. Obviously, not yet.
That 579 is going to be a definite change. I hope it works out well for you. 8mpg should be effortless.
Waiting on New Trucks thread.

So first trip is in the books and on 574 miles we averaged 6.6MPG. This truck is replacing my 389 which averaged 5.3MPG this year. I feel once it finds its groove we can hit 7MPG but in the meantime I'll take a 20% savings of my 2nd largest expense.
A 20% fuel savings is about what I expected but calculating the savings and actually seeing it is next level lol. Makes me really want to get serious on trading my other 389 in. -
I did an effortless 8.2mpg (< I gave fuel mileage no thought), in a ‘18 579, with only delivery miles. I was ~79K from western IL to Burley, ID. I left there at ~74K to SLC. Deadheaded back to Burley. I left Burley and headed back to western IL at ~78K. No idling.
All I can tell you about the spec is MX-13/455 with an Eaton auto-shift. -
Here's this week's update:
September 9, 2023
389 Peterbilt - 170.........15 389X's
579 Peterbilt - 382
T680 KW - 512
W9 KW - 112
Cascadia - 75
Volvo Family - 164
Mack - 55
International - 88
An increase of 76 units from last week. Not much to add that hasn't been said before...plenty of trucks available for sale, rates still compressed while volumes, at least in the reefer world, are robust. I keep hoping the switch flips before the end of the year.
The first week is in the books for my 579. I'm very happy with its performance and the driver loves the automatic and space. It turned 2,385 miles, with 18% deadhead (thank you Labor Day), and averaged 7.5MPG. Compare that to the 5.3MPG I averaged in the 389. A nice 30% fuel savings and in this day and age I'll take it. Just crazy how I didn't move this way sooner. I mean it was going to happen eventually as the 589 is trash but we literally don't have to do anything different operations wise. As I told my friend, having a hood is cool but having money is even cooler. -
My brother just picked up a 2022 W9 flattop with the big Cummins and 200k on it for $160k. Crazy to think that not that long ago it would’ve been a $200k+ truck.
Vampire, Siinman, dwells40 and 1 other person Thank this. -
