I realize that there's many drivers who are willing to wait (as if there's a choice) as it's detention pay after the 1st hour but my question is:

Is there a preferred hierarchy of companies that Wakefern prefers to do business with (i.e. doesn't make them wait forever for paperwork after lumpers & checkers are done).

I never see Schneider or Prime drivers waiting (in excess)...do those companies get d&h?

I liked that receiver, generally speaking. Key is, they don't work on appointments. With them, it's first come and check in (after 23:00 or 23:59, I forget, (used to be)), first in. If you can get there the evening before, wake up, check in at first call, go back to bed, then usually out be 07:00, regardless what time your appointment was. But I hate the way they make you run your CB and have to be woken up every 45 minutes. But if you don't check in until your "appointment", you're screwed.

I never had a problem at Keasbey. A few things to go by there...first off, your appointment time means nothing, as STexan said. Check in just after midnight (IIRC), and you're likely to be in the first wave. Also, if you are hauling fresh meat, eggs or dairy you are first in. Everything else goes to the end of the line. You're a sucker if you pay their lumper, if it's a straight pull-off or minimal sorting... drivers are (were, anyway. haven't been in there for several years now) allowed to use their single pallet jacks to unload.

I hauled in there for Cargill, and some weeks I was in there 3-4 days. Once they start to see you regularly, they seem to move along a bit better. Also, you learn which receivers are slackers. The biggest delays I ran into were when the receiver turned the paperwork back in to the office.

Wakefern too busy to pay attention to anything....ck in early...get door 1st wave...do NOT do in...get 2x riding pallet Jack....pull load...ride Jack to receiving window...line gone now...get stickers....go back to door....casually walk over to busy receiver....ask "I see your busy, would you like me to sticker my load for you? Its already docked......receiver signs your bills right then&there you put 18-24 stickers on....gone less than an hour....we've done it for years....works like a charm....;)
