Something about this does not make sense, how did safety know the driver was on the phone when he bent his extender? Please tell me he did not admit to talking on the phone while in a situation that required 100% of his attention. Again, there is a time and a place for everything. That driver sounds like he had issues.

They knew he was on the phone because he had to submit his cell phone records beings it was a preventable incident. Are you not familiar with our cell phone policy or are you even a walmart driver ?
The bottom line is we all know the policy thats in place. If you cant live with it and take the punishment that comes with not complying then find another job. -
I run two phones like alot of other drivers,is that a new concept for you? Honestly I did miss the whole preventable aspect caught it after I posted. There have been drivers that hung themselves by volunteering two much information.

The people I'm leased to has a rule. You get a ticket for not using a handsfree device and your lease gets canned.
I use the handsfree and if to much traffic etc. I don't use the phone. -
Those who wish to sound righteous and be supportive of such a cell phone policy, which will only catch those who are truly honest, should be the first to sign up when Walmart begins testing in cab cameras that capture what the driver is doing at the time a critical event occurs or whatever periods of time they so choose.
The managers who occupy that glass house they call the Home Office in Bentonville should look at themselves in the mirror in regards to the numerous REAL LAWS they violate and not focus so much on the company created rules aimed at penalizing a driving for doing something legal like talking on a hands free cell phone. Looking in your mirrors every 5-8 seconds is more distracting that talking on a hands free phone. No law or rule is going to compensate for the incompetent among us on the road. Making some rule about use of cell phones, that Walmart knows full well is just for show, will not change the culture any more than prohibition stopped the consumption of alcohol. What comes out of this cell phone policy will just be more people doing just as they have been, but it will be done covertly.
So, who among you that is without sin wishes to cast the first stone? Feel free to encourage Walmart to explore putting cameras in the truck, since after all, why should such a policy matter if you are not guilty of anything. Or, maybe you are?Cal Wally Thanks this. -
Heck trying to get Jill to read a new message to you is more distracting than a seat cover!
grabberblue12 and mike5511 Thank this. -
You keep doing that. But don't say that you were not warned when something happens to you and they need your records. Also the two phone thing, have fun with that. Karma will prevail when it has to. See the radio is just fine by me. I had stated earlier that I have missed an exit or two when I would be on the phone. Its just easier to not be on it and do our job safely. I am sure that a zero tolerance policy will come down the line and when it does, either you comply or go be your own boss and make your own rules. Bless your heart driver.Cal Wally and grabberblue12 Thank this.

Jill and Navigo are both distractions but ones that Bentonville feels they can allow because they increase productivity. Having driveway to driveway spoken directions and your messages from the ROC read to could be considered a distraction if they remove your full concentration from the job at hand.
When I moved from 0052x to 2026x I was distracted and very annoyed by the Wingman system. Thats one I havent seen brought up. Driving my own truck is something I do very well and having control removed even if just for a minute is something I many others really dislike.Last edited: Apr 2, 2014
Triumph 1 Thanks this. -
I dont thing anyone is supportive of it but again its a policy and we have to abide by it .Do we like no we do not .Are your hands tied ? No they are not free to leave at any time.
Our safety director says walmart will absolutely not put cameras in our trucks as they are just as bad as good. Now that could all change tomorrow who knows. I wanted to buy and use my own dash cam but safety said no cant have it in the truck. There are numerous mega carriers running in cab cameras and there drivers are still living and getting by.
The industry is changing ,technology is changing, FMCSA is mandating new regulations. This aint the good old days anymore guys. Accept it get on board or cut your CDL'S up.
This is not directed at you Tom just a general statement -
Heres the deal, when I talk on my hands free it when I have no other distractions. We run alot of open interstate, often with very little traffic. My personal SOP (has been for 23 years) is no radios,no phone and Jill on mute from the time I hit the off ramp until the time I park after I do my business. The same on the way back out to the big roads. Its a proven fact that a large majority of preventable accidents happen in that period of time. Same also applies at DC's and Vendors.
As for the phone karma, well that may well happen,Im a big boy and can take whatever comes my way. The truth is I have a side business and bought that second phone long before the cell phone policy flowed in from Bentonville.
