I got into motorcycle sales trying to get out of trucking in 2008. I sold two rincon ATVs to two Walmart drivers. Union boys. Their per diem allowance was 3100 and wages earned were approx 3200. Honda wouldn't finance approval because of the per diem considered not income. Arvest bank picked up the financing.
Flat rate per hour plus per diem allowance.

It's apples and oranges, but let me tell you about the gamble I took on myself back in 2015.

I left a $90,000 per year job at ABF for a chance to get hired at UPS. I would have to work seasonal, there would be no guarantee I'd get hired, and I would have to be perfect.

I rolled the dice. I knew I was miserable at ABF, so if UPS didn't hire me, I would just leave the industry..

After 3 months of seasonal work, I was laid off in January. I assumed I would hear something about getting hired by March. When I got the call in March, it was to come back for another 6 months of seasonal.

Through gritted teeth I agreed, was perfect for another 6 months, and then finally got hired by the end of summer.

It's not easy. It may not go according to plan. And it's scary as hell.

But you have to bet on yourself.

My pa got let go from the gas company with a tiny pension, cheaper to pay that plus his replacement at minimum wage and then later a computer. He simply got too expensvie for the company pay structure, so they cut him and half the building.

(The lower half, not the boardroom.)

Give a dc a call and find out if they're hiring at that dc and what they pay. I do notice who is pulling a wm trailer at times rolling down the road. How about you?

You have to wonder though; if they are firing senior staff in the office...senior drivers will be next...that is why there is a hiring blitz for new drivers....does not sound like we can plan for a long career here:(
