Walbon & Company has been nothing but good to me. They have good, well-maintained equipment and when I was unreasonably detained they compensated me. When I asked for alternative route plans they gave them. If not for the lack of freight and low pay, I would stick with them. It's a small family atmosphere and lots of really good people work there and do right by their drivers.
This coming Friday was supposed to be my last day there before I start at another company that will pay $0.48/mile (12 cents more per mile than I make at Walbon). But they just don't have any freight out of Florida this week, and nothing that would bring me back home by Friday, so they said, "Thank you Robin, you've done a great job, come back any time, always welcome here."
It's very satisfying to leave on good terms and know that I can always go back if things don't work out with my new company. I had a 3,000-mile week this week, the best ever. I'll miss my wonderful Kenworth with all it's bells and whistles, and the nice folks who take such good care of their drivers. I washed the truck spotless inside and out and left with good memories and good feelings.
I still think the future of the company is dismal, if only because they rely so heavily on one single customer to keep them going. But I am grateful to have worked at Walbon for my first few months after a 5-year hiatus from driving. God bless them.

Always refreshing to see drivers taking a step back looking at the big picture and leaving a job in good term.

Walbon is a wobbly company, up and down, been here a year and cant say i dislike the company, but i cant say i have made any money either
The Boy Wonder and jim4781205 Thank this. -
You won't make money until you run your own truck and have your own authority and have your own trailer. Then find a broker that will give you good rates then add trucks.
Good luck and enjoy the ride.waynedorsey6728 Thanks this. -
Walbon took me back after I resigned to take a better offer that was rescinded. I've had three 1,000-mile plus loads in the week and a half since I returned with my hat in my hand... so I can't complain. But the apparently customary shift of personnel between Planning and Dispatch has added a little more chaos and confusion. Short-lived, I hope, as people get used to their new positions.

I suspect this company has lost so many accounts now that they're accepting any brokered runs they can find, without regard to whether or not they have drivers to handle them. Out of hours, they dispatched me anyway on a load to deliver 900 miles away in 3 hours' time. Then 8 stops the next day. "The planners know what they're doing, you'll be fine," I was told.
My 70-hour workweek was shot, I can't drive 300 miles per hour (I've always wanted to try that though), and I can't deliver to 8 stops with zero hours of service. "Yes you can..."
I refused the load. I expect to be fired tomorrow, just as I think my friend WayneDorsey6728 was for the same reason. Wayne was one of their best drivers. Half of the awards on the wall of their corporate office have his name on them! Yet they dumped him for his honesty and integrity.
Sent to the yard for a reset, I dropped my loaded trailer next to 8 other loaded trailers awaiting delivery and parked my tractor next to 19 others! That's a bad sign, I think... I suspect the end is near for this company. I'd rather there was a buyout or something than this decline to self-destruction.waynedorsey6728 Thanks this. -
He told a complete lie on this thread!
