Sleeper run, but if they lay off again. I’ll just be on layoff.

I'm not gonna lie... This is the TOUGHEST decision I've heard of since being on this site. You can pretty much do whatever because you don't have any real responsibilities.

I'm definitely interested in how this plays out for you. Keep this in mind too tho, you're BLESSED man. You have the freedom to work for either Wal-Mart or UPS. Both pay dang good too.

Stick with a union position for pension., eventually you’ll need it.

Good move. You're positioned well to weather out this storm.
Many people do not have that luxury and in your situation have to leave.

If you had a family and you were the sole or main income, it would be a different story.

Good choice. It’s a long term choice. Making it short term may be tough. It’s well worth it. I can say after 31 years Driving, everything changes. Jobs that were impossible to get become available. Business grows overall, People retire, etc. population increases, 10 or 20 years from now everything will be different. Walmart may outsource all their Trucking. If they’re around at all. You’ll get a choice of which warehouse job you want. New Jersey or Mississippi. Lol. Few of the same Trucking companies will be around. UPS is probably the most likely to be around. You’ll have Seniority in no time. Beats job hopping trying to make a few dollars short term.

You’re right everything changes in trucking and just like walmart could outsource , ups could get rid of the pension and go with a 401k vs pension which has happen at union trucking companies in the past . I hope it never happens but anything possible in trucking

I'd be more willing to bet on Walmart outsourcing before UPS going 401k. At least there are union agreements that have to be made before UPS can change their retirement.
