Why do you get offended by anything anyone says about Walmart???haz-matguru, T.Rucker and truckdriver31 Thank this.

There is no denying that Walmart is more desperate than EVER for drivers. There are a handful of DCs that from what I heard during my time there always had a low/moderate but steady turnover, but they never had the fleet wide problem retaining drivers like they have the past few years. If it’s true about the phone policy being relaxed, hopefully it’s finally getting through to them that something needs to be done with what has happened to the fleet. If everyone, or at least the majority of drivers had their own, assigned truck, I can guarantee it would cut turnover DRASTICALLY.
JadeLove, haz-matguru, drvrtech77 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Agreed.
Not to mention the fact that they recently changed their policy on transferring to another DC. Used to have to wait a year, now you don’t have to. If a DC is hiring and the GTM’s chat and approve it you can transfer anywhere with less then a year at your current DC.
I know at my DC they’re trying to bump up to 200 drivers which I personally think is overloading the DC. We don’t have the parking or the trucks to go from 109 drivers, up to 200. Makes me scratch my head, but I’m just a driver so I sit back and watch...drvrtech77, mxpx148 and truckdriver31 Thank this. -
Who said I was offended? Or is that another one of your assumptions? I just enjoy pointing out the complete untrue statements people make and how silly some of those claims are, from people who’ve got no idea what they’re talking about. It’s a hobby.
Having said that, is WM pushing to add a lot more drivers? Yes, but in my neck of the woods that’s not due to driver retention, but due the fact that WM has taken back routes and DC’s run by outside carriers, and put them back in the hands of the private fleet. Just in CA, NV, OR, and AZ alone WM has Added close to 500 driver positions. Added. Not replace. So again, just because a company is advertising does not equal lower employment standards or failure at retaining. In this case, the west coast, it’s due to expanded operation and increased need for MORE fleet drivers.
It’s helpful to have an actual idea of what’s going on.truckdriver31 Thanks this. -
Treputt is correct on that...a lot of the grocery DCs are trying to get rid of the contract carriers, hence adding positions that didn’t exist before. That isn’t the whole reason they are adverttlike crazy, paying sign on bonuses etc. Pottsville had been trying to cut Swift loose for almost 2 years now, and they can’t since they are loosing drivers at the same/faster rate than they are hiring them. I was out of 6080 and I had a trainer tell me that we were at an almost 100% turnover rate, so we weren’t even able to fill the new positions they were adding...only backfill existing positions. Even during the slower season, we consistently had Landstar trucks there, as well as a couple other random megas.truckdriver31, Treputt and T.Rucker Thank this.

I had heard when I was at Walmart from a few drivers that the Florida GM DCs are all pretty decent to run out of. Don’t know if it’s true or not, but one driver told me that Lake City(think that’s the name of it) has the best ADP in the countryGCH7224 Thanks this.
