After 2 weeks off the road, it feels good to be driving again. Busy morning, 2 stopper from my dc, then 3 stop grocery ld. My mentor is in the hotel for the night and I'm camping out in the truck. Nighty night drivers and be safe. More to come!

Had my second interview yesterday, which had nothing to do with being interviewed (as everyone has already said it is the job offer). Got offered the job, did my drug test and physical now I just await my orientation start date. The way he made it sound it should be pretty soon. Also, I thought I might be one of the last ones hired since it has taken a couple months to get this far, but it turns out I am the first out of 14 to be hired! Can't hurt to come in the company with 13 other drivers under you in seniority right off the bat. I should be able to have my choice of 5/2 or 6/3 schedule very soon from what he said. The way I was treated, the atmosphere, the whole experience really gives me excellent feeling that I making a great choice and I realize how lucky I am. It primarily base hiring on your qualifications and clean record but I still feel lucky. It is a great privilege and an honor to come to work for this company. I thought earlier today that I might actually have to turn the job down because of what they are offering for health insurance, because what they offered me was for Pennsylvania residents while I am in New York resident.. but some calls to HR they found me a plan good for New York that I can be more than happy with. So, with just that little bump in the road, I eagerly await my orientation. Walmart...here I come...!
P.S. forgive whatever spelling errors and grammatical inaccuracies as this speech to text is not always perfect and I was in a hurry and did not proof read. -
NYVET Thanks this.

Great news NYVET! Well today went to wal~mart import facility and got a load of pallets to IFCO. Fro there another 2 stop grocery ld. Now I am on a load to another dc from the import facility. I am enjoying what I am doing. This is not like driving for a general freight company. Tomorrow we have to switich trucks at some point. Stay safe.
kee1227 Thanks this. -
I really enjoyed the grocery side. My first year with JB I was on a dedicated account for Walmart out of Johnstown NY. It was there that I actually got the bug to work for Walmart but of course I did not have nearly the qualifications that they required. I am very familiar with how Walmart operates. I always thought it was pretty neat that all the vendors had to pull out of the dock when the grocery load showed up. As long as it was a Walmart trailer it did not matter who was pulling it. It was also a real eye opener seeing how many different configurations of stores they have. Couple examples, there is a store in Kingston New York where the loading docks are underground. Drive in, swing around, avoid the stacks of shopping carts they keep in there for storage, and do your thing. There is a store in White Plains New York where the loading docks are also under ground, but you can only take a 28 foot pup trailer, so you take a set of doubles to a nearby Sam's Club parking lot, and from there you take one small trailer at a time. Another store in Watchung New Jersey is probably one of the most interesting I have seen. You drive behind the store down a narrow alley and you come to the end where you can go no further... and wait for the back of the store to slide open! You drive in and do whatever you gotta do (drop/hook for GM, wait to get unloaded if its grocery), and when you leave you pull out straight ahead and the side of the store slides open. There are three storey stores, there are stores that look like Swiss Chalets and villages and log cabins (usually dictated by local building ordinances to better blend in with the surrounding communities), as well as stores that are truly in the middle of nowhere! And of course there is the odd occasional store that nobody wants to go to...like Uniondale on Long Island! I will be revisiting a lot of the stores that I was familiar with and very much looking forward to it. Another great thing about working for Walmart... you'll never have to worry about getting some place to buy something that you need or want, LOL.
Well, the worst waiting is over... but waiting sucks regardless. I'll let you know when I start my orientation...when I get that last call... -

Ah ok. My uncle runs out of Toby.
Well tomorrow is Friday and I am looking forward to going home. I have learned a lot this week. Needless to say, I am happy here! Can't wait to be on my own next week!
