When I am sleeping in the truck, I am really not "off duty". I am responsible for the truck and the cargo in the trailer, plus the fact, I am away from home, maybe not working in a general sense, but still on the job.

bad part is i went to a dc the other month and there was a opening for a 5/2-5/3. the guys that signed up have been slip seating since 2015

Slip seating isn't as big a deal as people make it. I've done it since 2007. Everything I need fits in a backpack.
But have they seriously installed a two-tier wage system where new hires cap out at .38 cpm? That's abysmal, if it's true. Every mega carrier out there caps out at a higher rate, so I see NO point in working for Walmart...ever.
