Cool, thanks mruffin! Do you have any idea why they are hiring so much? Retirements, driver's quitting?

From what I was told it is mostly from retirements. They have an older driver pool so a lot of guys are retiring. Another thing I have learned through this process is just cause there is a lot of postings online currently .doesn't mean they are hiring a ton of drivers. I applied at 8 locations and the total drivers they were hiring at all of them was less than 50 drivers. That's at 8 different Dcs combined.

Hi drozzer69, your welcome. I've read many of your post, if you have any advise I would really appreciate it. I was nervous during the phone interview but everything went well. It's been so long since I've had to look for a job that it's a bit nerve racking. Of course this is the only job I am looking for. Anyone have any helpful advise, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi guys, I'm new to this thread, thanks for all the info. I was just looking for info on the interview process and stumbled across it. I spent about an hour and a half the night before last reading most of the posts. I had my phone interview yesterday and passed that so step in the right direction. Like Jim, I live about 300 miles from the D.C. Just curious, there is a D.C. about 30 min from my house but no openings, If I make it thru the process do you know if there is a benefit to living near the D.C. as far as getting home for breaks during your work week? Thanks for any help.

Roadhogg, you passed the phone interview so you are starting good. They should have told you that the Dc you applied to will call to set up the next part with the pre trip road test and physical and such. Do the best pre trip that you can! Point out everything and touch what you point at. There is a lot of info at the beginning of this thread that will help you get through this process.

Danka927, the Dc 30 miles from you, is it a gm Dc or a groc Dc? Also is there a dedicated fleet out the groc Dc? I have a groc Dc that is close to me as well but Great wide runs all the reefer and a small portion of the dry so we don't have any drivers domiciled there. It depends on the area what the company has set up.

you can transfer to the one close to your house in a year. I had to do the same thing just a lot further away from home. of course now that I have taken this one they posted an opening at the dc close to my home . LOL. the good thing for us new guys with this is that transfers aren't by seniority. they go by who put in the transfer request first before they had an opening. so even though it may not be online they could still end up with an opening but they fill transfer request first. then if they still have openings they post it online.

matt has a pretty stellar record on getting guys through and hired from this thread. I myself am one of them, so read through it ask questions and you too will be joining the team. I can only remember one guy that didn't make it through and that was a backing issue that was from this thread.

Click on the below link. On the page you will see a map with all the DC's that have been hiring Walmart drivers. If you click on a DC on the map, it will show the last and/or current hiring dates for that DC. For example, the DC near you in Midway, TN has not been hiring for more than 4.5 years! That may a good thing in that with drivers retiring, you could see openings for that DC sometime soon..... or maybe not. As others have already stated, you can always get your foot in the door by getting hired at a different DC and try to transfer in the future once you have worked for at least one year.
