Thanks for the helpful info. I was mainly asking because if I make it through this is a big decision as it was for some of you. I am not opposed to relocating closer to the Washington Court House facility, but I have 3 daughters and one is a jr in high school so moving would be a little more difficult. At the same token a transfer would not be a guarantee. Then I wasn't sure if you actually live close to the D.C. do they make efforts to get you back there throughout the week to break? I suppose I should stop putting the cart before the horse and actually get the job first lol

You can always wait a little longer and pray for a DC closer to home to start hiring. This job will be far more enjoyable if you do not have a lot of outside distractions right from the beginning.skinnytrucker, danka927, drozzer69 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Does Walmart have a mandatory retirement age? Like 70 or 75yrs old.

Not that I know of. The oldest driver that I was told drove for Wal~mart until he was 82.
Big Red Pete Thanks this. -

yeah. i got a notice in my mail box about it. They don't post the work injury miles any more so now it is a paper notice. We are also at 6.7 million miles currently and still rolling!

Hey everyone. I applied to a open position at the New Braunfels DC. here in Texas about a month ago. I had my initial phone interview and passed. Two days later (just this passed Friday) I received a call from the New Braunfels dc to schedual a pre trip, interview, road test etc. Things are happening fairly fast which after reading posts on here dating back to 2012 is not usually the case. You guys have answered a lot of questions I had in my head. A little background about me ...15 years driving all local in Texas. Averaged about 1800 miles per week and about 30 stops. Weekends off, 18 paid vacations and 10 paid holidays. I was the only driver at my current position with a garage door company here in San Antonio. My truck is a 2007 freightliner columbia with 500000 miles on it. My average runs left from San Antonio to Austin, to Killeen, To Victoria, Corpus, And the RGV. Dedicated runs each week. By the end of the week , maybe 45-50 hours worked. My weeks pay was about 1100-1250.00 before taxes. Company has decent insurance, 401k plan.
Most guys on here have expressed their opinions about how great it is to make a change to wal-mart. Most have kids , like myself (8 and 10 and 13) and found it hard to be away. That's probably my greatest question is the away time and how you guys deal with it and most likely not being home during the holidays ie christmas. I know they pull you off the road christmas eve, but not sure if you actually get home or not. Ive never missed a christmas in all my years of driving. Wife and I have been talking non stop about the pros and cons, etc. She sees the money and getting bills paid off and I see being away from home from a comfortable bed, big screen tv and kids.
Im at the point that im so sick of fast food, i hope they have power inverters installed in their trucks so I can use a microwave to heat up home cooking.
I do have some serious questions about medications they may or may not frown on. I have high blood pressure so take a medication for that. As well, im type 2 diabetic controlled with food and a low dose of medication. All under control for many years, backed up with blood tests showing controlled A1C levels almost at normal levels. About the only other issue is with C-Pap machines. Ive only recently told i may have sleep apnea. Took a sleep study and ya, i have it. Currently (3 months now) have been on and off it, with really no differences in my sleep except that it stops the snoring and makes the wife sleep better because of it. Does wal-mart have any policy reqarding such devices. I'm not a fat guy, but i'm definitely bigger then some. 6'1 270lbs.
Any suggestions, information etc would be appreciated. I will have to let the New Braunfels Dc know on Monday about whether I continue or not in the hiring process.
Thanks
Cory
