The disgruntled. These are the guys who got fired or disciplined for doing something...oh I don't know...against company policy? Or they want to do things THEIR way and they have a problem conforming to the way their EMPLOYER want things done and don't like being told how to do things. Nobody forced them to take the job (just like the store associates that complain about low, though higher than minimum wages), and maybe they should be owner-operators so they can do it their way.
The 'old timers'. These guys are just a small handful, a very small percentage, but their voices ring the loudest. They hate it when a new guy loves the job! In my opinion, these guys are disloyal crybabies, upset that Walmart no longer wipes their butts or gives them as many hot dogs as they used to. They are upset that Walmart uses GPS tracking (for efficient dispatching which benefits Walmart AND the driver as you're not waiting for another load) or cameras (which will benefit both Walmart AND the driver unless you're doing things you're NOT supposed to do) and they're against having to enter arrival and departure times in the OBC...again, another tool to benefit the company AND the driver. The 'big brother' conspiracy runs rampant. They'll also make comments like 'the new Walmart'. The fact is, Walmart has made necessary changes in order to adapt to the new business and economic climate that we all live in today. Anyone remember K-Mart? At one time they were the big guy on the block. Where are they now? They didn't change or adapt and look at them now. Instead of these guys being disloyal to their employer by bad-mouthing them and longing for the 'good ol' days', they should thank Walmart for having made the necessary changes in order to survive (and thrive) in a very difficult economy. This is STILL the best job in the industry. If the negative drivers would open their eyes, they'd realize this is still the case, and roll with the changes. The fact that these guys are STILL HERE says a lot too...
I still pinch myself over a year later. Nobody 'looks over my shoulder', nobody pushes me, there's NO intimidation, they are extremely family oriented and will work with you no matter what your problem, whether its getting you home early or staying home into your work week, you got a problem, you can actually talk to your managers and if you need to go home (or stay home), they'll see that it happens. They treat us with respect and dignity, every day of every week. You've read the positive, and I can attest to the fact that its all accurate, and the negative is all BS. This is the EASIEST, most laid-back job I've ever had. I'm driving brand new trucks and there's no stress. I truly have absolutely zero regrets. The pay and benefits are excellent and the job satisfaction is second to none. Good luck and welcome to Walmart. Avoid the disgruntled old timers and you'll do well and be happy.WallyWife, grabberblue12, billthetrucker and 4 others Thank this. -

Rick read it and told me about it. He gave 2 enthusiastic thumbs up. We have talked about these very things many times. He will probably post when he gets home............... extended weeks have started. Well, I will type and he will dictate. LOLdrozzer69 Thanks this. -
I have mixed feelings over what I will make public regarding a settlement I make with Walmart Transportation. It is a battle between the human flesh side that does not forgive by nature and the spiritual side that is commanded to forgive. When I feel any resentment building up, I go to a Walmart store and shop, as well as read scripture. I do not disagree with your assessment of the job itself. It really is a good job when you look at the nuts and bolts of the operation and how easy it is to earn a large paycheck. The combined effort of Walmart Transportation management and drivers working together on safety is why the CSA score remains among the lowest of any carrier.bbq247365 Thanks this. -
Tom, from what little I know about your particular situation, I know it to be unique and the exception rather than the rule, and I wish you the best possible outcome. I certainly was not referring to your situation or any similar situation. There are, and always will be, a unique situation that is in a category all its own and is not in any way 'the norm'. I simply refer to the kinds of drivers, again a tiny percentage, that make negative comments about the day-to-day job and even start new threads 'warning' anyone considering applying or accepting a job with the Fleet, or who hang around the breakroom, complaining about the 'new Walmart' and trying to influence new drivers to their way of thinking, the 'drag-down' effect. Perhaps not every DC has this happen, but I have encountered it with a couple at mine...and I just kept moving along. Nobody likes change, but if we understand that change is necessary, we can all move on and continue earning a great pay check.
Again Tom, bless you and best of luck with your outcome. If you took any offense at what I said, none was intended.TomOfTx and noninetofive Thank this. -
Jim, I took no offense to anything you said, nor do I intend any offense directed at you. My situation is unique and will be resolved. Friday (Halloween) marked the one year anniversary since I was placed on LOA. Under normal company policy, I would be terminated once my LOA reached the one year mark. This is not going to happen due to the circumstances of my case. Legal matters take a lot of time and seem to move slow as molasses uphill on a Monday, but I do believe my case can be resolved without going to Federal court before the end of 2014. Once resolved, then it will be forgive and restore back to where I was in 2013. This may be why I limit what I disclose about the settlement only because forgiveness would not be genuine if I were to then speak publicly about a private matter.
Jim, I am so glad you are doing so well and are very happy. May God continue to bless you each day.NYVET and noninetofive Thank this. -
Can someone tell me what competitive means on your background check? Thanks
