Yes, anyone who lives over 50 miles from the DC will be in a hotel room paid for by Walmart.

Ok...hello everyone. I don't know what the bleep happened to my settings that are supposed to notify me of new replies to my subscribed threads, but one finally came through today and I see I've missed quite a bit. So...I didn't even know which post to reply to first LOL. How's it going Tom? You back in the seat yet?
Well, let me address some stuff that I've read here. First off, congrats to any new hires, as has been said already, you've made the best career move you could have possibly made.
Start times vary by DC as Matt has stated, at Tobyhanna they are either 0800 or 1200. Pottsville has one at 1700 and I believe a noon but not sure. Each DC has different start times based on their operational necessities. Pottsville has later start time because they are grocery and the delivery times for the reefers are later at night. Other grocery DC's might have earlier delivery schedules, based on regional needs such as a percentage of stores that have noise ordinances etc. Either way, you'll get used to it.
The new 250 mile rule. Someone said it was case by case. This may be so at that particular DC, but Tobyhanna mandated this. Even though I have been making this commute for a year and a half, I'm not grandfathered in or anything like that. My options were a come down the night before or transfer. No ifs ands or buts. But as I see it, this is actually a great thing. I live 270 miles away. 4.5 hour drive. I was going to bed about 10, getting up about 6, getting there about 11 (I stop to eat), and some days just being too tired to work a full 14. I usually was able to work a full day, but on the days that I didn't, I would lose money. I actually like it this way. I now leave home the same time I would have been going to bed. Much more of a relaxing drive to work, because I don't have to worry about construction delays, traffic, or anything like that, thus perhaps getting there late. Now I get down there about 2 in the morning, load up the truck, put all my stuff away, hook up all my electronics, go to bed, and when I wake up everything is ready and I'm ready to roll, and able to work a full day. It kinda sucked a little bit getting down there the morning that I had to start, being on a schedule so to speak, loading up the truck putting everything away and making my gate time on time. Not that it was ever a problem, it was just a little more hectic. And if the truck is not available for some reason, they will have a room for me, their cost.
Pay. I'm not making as much as everyone else is saying they are making, but that is because I am on a 6 on, 3 off program, and I have taken a lot of time off...cuz I CAN. I make plenty, and balance it with the time off, and I am very very happy. The job security doesn't hurt either. We are authorized to have a 147 drivers, and I think we currently have something like 115. I have 20 drivers under me already in just a year and a half. This is great for me, because I am NOT transferring like most people who come through Tobyhanna and Pottsville. Of course equally as important as the pay is how they treat you here, and I have no complaints in that department.
Well, hopefully the notification issue has been resolved and I will receive notifications for replies to this thread. I had just assumed that the thread went quiet as it sometimes does. And apologies for any spelling or grammatical inaccuracies as I was using voice typing. Again, congrats and welcome to all you new guys.TomOfTx, WallyWife and Buzzard2157 Thank this. -
Hope you are still doing well Jim. It sounds like you are.Buzzard2157 Thanks this. -
Hey Jim, I was wondering where you went !!! Nice to see you, and great to know it is going well.
We had a pleasant surprise recently. For some silly reason we thought that 2 weeks vacation started after the 3rd year. Well, it starts after the second. So, our big trip to Disney World this fall will all be vacation days (we are taking 2 weeks). Now Rick has the unpleasant task (LOL) of figuring out what to do with all of the safety days and deferred holidays. Poor him, getting over 3 paid weeks off in less than 3 years.
With the hirings, Rick will have some decent seniority also. We do not know how much yet, but every bit will help. Cross fingers that he gets the 6/2 that he has been pining for on this realignment.
Rick will never be the highest paid Walmart driver. He is just too careful, and never speeds at all. But, we are very pleased with the progression of his income here. It really is a great job.
Tom, I don't think there is anything that I need badly enough to deal with Black Friday sales. NOTHING. I hibernate. LOLBuzzard2157 and TomOfTx Thank this. -
Personally, IMO, the 6/2 program is just way too much time at work. For anyone.

Buzzard2157 Thanks this. -
I don't shop on Whacked Friday either...but the nice thing is, anything that WAS on sale still rings up at the Whacked Friday sale price for a few more days afterwards. That's when I found out that the discount doesn't apply. I am either working (trying to drive through crowds of people) or at home watching TV. Too crazy for me!
