Matt, that is what got me back in 2012 when I renewed my hazmat endorsement. A whole bunch of questions relating to radioactive, explosives, and bulk hazmat. Since I haven't hauled those items since the 90's, I just was not up to date on the updated regs pertaining to types of hazmat I will never see driving for the Private Fleet, nor do I care to haul anymore! I agree that changing the hazmat endorsement to be based on something like hauling Table 1 and 2 or just Table 2 hazmat would be nice. There are enough regs we need to stay up to date on as it is, so adding regs that will never apply to our operation is a waste of time! :)

Don't sweat it Matt, you will ace it next time. You will be more prepared for all those Table 1 hazmat questions and zip through them.

I am changing to a 5/2 5/3 program starting Sunday, so I may run into you at different times and places then before. Because of where I jumped into the program, I will have part or all of the weekends off until June 7th. I am so glad I will not be slip seating into multiple trucks during the 5 day week anymore! :)

Congrats! Glad you got on a program! Yeah I was given the the book from DPS, but I know it will only do so much. I know all the other stuff pretty well. Just the explosives and combinations of certain hazmat materials questions with amounts are what was stumping me. With so much knowledge to have for this endorsement, the test should be open book at least. I only see it getting harder and harder as we move along. Oh well, just gonna study as much as I can and retake it next week on my time off.

For some strange reason, I realized last night while laying in bed that I had forgotten to answer this question. Yes, I did apply for the 5/2 5/3. I was on a 6/3, but with this program I still rotate to get the occasional weekend and I will make more money and increase my ADP. The 6/3 was more like a 5 1/2, 3 1/2, so when you factor in actual work days and days off, adding half a day for day 6 and half a day extra at home, that's money going out the door.

    TomOfTx and drozzer69 Thank this.

Lucky me, here in Texas, they have 7 different tests at random so you never get the same questions plus its a state geared test. I was talking to a driver who used to haul explosives all the time and he had a very specific question on his test about an amount. It was marked wrong because he used the federal standard and the test was looking for the state standard. No wonder this test is so hard. Well I read up a bit tonight, gonna head to bed and read some more tomorrow.

I'm home now...FAR FAR away from Garfield lol. I don't mind GOING to that store, and the McDonalds comes in handy, I just don't like that they're one of these 'this door only' stores, and of COURSE both GM doors are occupied. This is actually one of my only, yet biggest pet peaves with this job.

It is an interesting store to get to the first time. Really gotta pay attention to Navigo.

Do you get to pick your schedule as far as if you want a 5/2 or 6/3? How much can someone expect to make on one versus the other? I go to orientation next Monday in Greencastle IN and I'm interested in a 6/3.
