Hello everyone! I would like to personally thank everyone for posting about their experience and what to expect as a driver at Wal~Mart! I was very nervous about making the transition and after reading all of you guys post I am starting to feel good about my decision to leave my current employer of 7 yrs and take the position at Wal~Mart! I am due to start my orientation on the 18th of next month out of the Spring Valley Il DC!

Be sure and do a good pre-trip inspection! Name off everything you see! I've been told that this is where a lot of drivers fail! I did my pre-trip and road test in Gas City, IN and the guy told me I was the first driver in his 20 years of working in safety that someone named off every item on the pre-trip, but I was a training engineer at Schneider National before taking the job at Walmart, so I found this part of the process to be easy! On the road test, be sure to keep your eyes moving, don't hit anything, don't coast out of gear, and don't hit any curbs. Be sure to get out and look when you do your backing! Use three points of contact when entering and exiting the cab, and also when you are cranking your landing gear during your coupling. I road tested in a Peterbilt, and I had never drove one in my life, and he told me that I did a fine job. Good luck!:biggrin_25519:

Thank you for that advise, but I have completed that part already! The 18th will be my first week of orientation and then 2ND week I will be with a mentor

Congratulations !!! Enjoy your orientation and enjoy the ride. Just make sure you come back in relay your experiences with the Private Fleet, as it helps others to make the decision.

It will be better than you think it will be, I guarantee it. :)

Good luck on the road test and pre trip, and welcome aboard to the new hires! This really is a better experience than majority of the major carriers out there. Just as wallywife said, pay it forward here and ask any questions you may have. Someone here will have an answer or will get you one.
