WallyWife, I love reading your posts - they keep my anticipation level really high!!! My husband is going to work for a Walmart DC here in Texas. We are patiently waiting for a call as to when orientation will start. All of the post offer checks are complete and he is good to go. I can still hardly believe it is happening. I think this last month here at his current company is going to be really hard. He loves these people but knows that they can't and never will be able to offer what Walmart can as far as money, benefits etc...Please keep posting all of the good things that we are in store for, because wives like me just need to hear that everything is going to be alright!!! Thanks! Our family is ready for a more relaxed, happy daddy and husband. One who is not so worried about money or so tired from his work week that he can't unwind and enjoy his family.

    drozzer69 and jtg80 Thank this.

THANKS !! Get ready for the ride ReadyforChange. Just the first week, when he is in orientation, and he comes home so excited................ as he tells you about the massive amount of information they are stuffing you with. It will be "OMG, and they do ___________." and "Oh, and I forgot, they give you ___________." He will be like a little kid. :)

Mine hauled propane before WM. He was at his company for 7 years and was the senior driver. In the winter, there weren't enough hours in a day, and sometimes the only time we would see him was when he would come home to do his laundry. He is a model employee and never complains, and to this place, he was invisible. He would diagnose his truck himself and try to nurse it into the shop when it had issues, so the owner wouldn't have to put out money on a tow. There was never a thank you. He had to fight for loads when it was slow, even though he had seniority and should get them first. He was as miserable as miserable can be............. and then there was the constant worry about if his company would still be in business tomorrow.............. wondering if your paycheck would cash.................... wondering if they paid your insurance when you went to get perscriptions. When he was home, he was worried about the other drivers getting loads that he should have. Frankly, it made my heart hurt for him.

I'm sure that none of this is new to many others. Many who live it every day. You will slowly see your husband come back to you, and become the man he was before he was beaten down by this profession. He will become one of those Walmart "cheerleaders." His enthusiasm will rub off to you and your family. If you want a really great experience, have him participate in the truck driving rodeo. If he gets to go to the regional championships, your whole family will have an amazing time.................. and all on Walmart. You will get to enjoy planning actual vacations that you can afford to take, just like we are planning a huge Disney World 2 week adventure in October.

Also, never hesitate to ask questions. We decided long ago, that with him being a truck driver, that I would be a stay-at-home Mom for our son. I will try to answer anything I can, and will get the answers from him when I can't. :) Welcome, and let us know when he has orientation.

I want to say thank you to everyone that has posted on here. I have read and read and read now almost a week later I finally got through all 312 pages. I had a phone interview yesterday and they said that I passed and that the DC that I applied for will call me next week to schedule a pre trip and driving test. All the info I got from here was so helpful because I had no idea what to expect. Thank you again to everyone!!

the money is there to be made, no doubt. Just going thru the motions and you will be 80k pretty easily. Having said that, it isn't for everybody. Be honest about yourself and family needs, etc. Pretty easy work with great money for a job field that is pretty stagnant wage wise in most parts of the country. Factor in transfer opportunities, being treated well... sometimes I want to bang my head against the wall like any job, but it is rare. Some markets the money is even bigger, since we are living to work essentially, may as well make the best of it with atmosphere and the bottom line.

Thank you everyone for answering my questions. I've decided to go ahead and make the switch if they make the job offer. I feel that's what in the best interest for my family.

Heads up y'all, 7815 Bartlesville OK is now accepting in house transfers. Everyone should have been notified at this point. Anybody that lives near the Tulsa area there will be a hiring event for outside new hires to this location if in house transfers are not met. This is a groc Dc serving OK, Mo, Ak, Ks area. Spread the word.

The memo received mentioned it makes good business sense for the Private Fleet to haul more of the freight out of 7815. I wonder when they will do the same at places like 7010 in New Caney, TX?

Really wish I had a sleeper and a 53 this week in preparation for my test this week. I mean I enter very tight gas stations with my cab/tanker and do alright, I'm hoping that's its like riding a bike once I sit in that seat
