Hello Drivers, After you have worked at a DC for a year how does transfering to another DC work, do you have to wait for an opening first?

I passed the phone interview, went in for the road test. Did great on the pre trip, failed the backing. 53 ft trailers stuffed side by side with about a foot in between each one. Another row in front so you can't pull forward to straighten out. You have to snake around and alley back in. It was tough, I got it in there but the Safety Manager told me it took too long. Also said I didn't do a proper tug test when I hooked up to the trailer.
It was a much harder test than a cdl lic test. Most of my experience is oilfield, tankers and flatbeds. We just roll off-road and park like cowboys. Anyway, it's tough to land such a good gig like Wal-Mart otr when you drive a belly line tanker. Never really have to back in anywhere.
Someday hopefully I'll get another chance... -
Don't be too hard on yourself. There are many, many people who do not make it the first time. Now you know what to expect for the next time, and can be better prepared. Just practice backing into small spaces. If you can do it with the tanker, you will do fine with the 53 footer. My husband came from a propane tanker background himself, but did have to do a lot of backing with it, so it was easier.
Here is to knowing you will ace it next time !!!! (holding up a beer)Line Hauler 101, drozzer69 and noninetofive Thank this.
