That is ok. I didn't expect to be paid for any holidays so soon after my hire date. My 90 days will be up prior to Thanksgiving. Matt, your 90 days are up just before Labor Day, so that is good you will get paid for that holiday! :)

I am now officially done with my current job at UPS Freight. Next stop: Walmart in 3 days! The itinerary for the 4 days of orientation looks to be fun! :)

If your on a 6/3 program and have a year or so in you can take a 5 day stretch off every 6-8 weeks. You simply put your three days off together with 2 days of your comp time. You will only get the ADP for two days but its an option if you like to travel or have ither things to do.

There are many time off options available but I think the 6/3 offers the most. I left six weeks of vacation where I was before. You will notice that especially on the 6/3 that having four nights and three full days at home each week is like a mini vacation. I came from a 6 day 70 hour a week job so it was really nice for me. Of course you can use your comp time any way you choose so enjoy.

I was filling out the app for walmart and it says have you driven at least 50000 miles a year last 3 years. I drive local for a ltl company and have been there 10 years no tickets or accidents but I added up my mileage and my average is 47000 miles a year. puts me way past the 250000 miles but a little short on the 50000. do you think im screwed? think there is a chance it will be close enough?

Just give a rough estimet of your milage. I had to when I applied because I was on a local dedicated account. Other than that you should be good on your app.

They are PICKY with that said, what they really want to know is if you can function as an OTR sleep in the truck kind of driver. Most drivers seem to come from the OTR outfits so they will more than meet the mileage requirement. You will rarely at most DC's be out more than 500 miles but you will be breaking in the truck during your work week. There are a few exceptions but very few.

I came from a grocery line haul job but we ran three states and put in 500-65O miles a night so I met the miles no problem and had a few years of traditional OTR on my resume.

Heres the deal. For the most part the line to get your butt in the seat of a Walmart truck is very long with lots of very well qualified candidates. Things have changed a little over the last few years and I do believe they have had to relax thier standards just a little in order to keep up with need. Guys retire and they have had to do some house cleaning and of course they are always growing.

Here's some numbers from when I hired on. They took in over 2000 applications, interviewed 20 or so and hired 6 of us. We all fit pretty much the same demographic. Over 45,20+ years of experience and we all were 2 million mile drivers with stellar records. Im not saying this to scare you off but you need to have an idea of what a competitive process it is. You need to be extra careful during every step of the process starting with the application. Many of the applications never make it to review because they are not properly filled out or they are mising information. You are being evaluated from the very start and it will not stop until your done with your mentor time. You may only get one shot so be ready to knock it out of the park. If you dont get called in just keep applying,it took me almost ten years. Good luck!
