So I've been lurking here for awhile, almost caught up reading the whole thread. I am another union LTL driver that has been struggling with the decision to make the leap. Seems like when the DC I'm interested in is hiring, it's a period when I don't totally hate my job. The time has come, I have to get out of here, now just waiting for them to hire again.

My question is, can any of you give an idea of what the discount card is worth to your households? It occurs to me that I could think of that savings as an offset to the cost of the insurance benefits.

Thanks Matt for starting this thread, and all who have contributed so much valuable information here.

Well, you get 10% off general merchandise (TVs, oil for your car, makeup, etc) and fresh produce. That is expanded during the holidays to include everything in the store.

Wife here, finally got thru all 531 pages of this post. Good Gravy! A heartfelt thank you to everyone that has commented and relayed personal experience about the process.
I have been submitting applications for my Fiance for the last three years for Apple Valley and finally he got a call! The phone interview went well last week and they are squeezing him in between East Coast runs for his Pre-trip this week. I have been taking notes on what NOT to do and things to be sure not to miss. I'm more nervous for him then he is. Like everyone else here, this move would go a long way to helping his quality of life with me and his children. He misses us all so much and it breaks my heart knowing he works so hard for so little in return. So fingers crossed that Wednesday goes well and he can move forward in becoming a Fleet Driver. He worked as a contract driver a few years back and loved it. He still ends up at Porterville now with his current LTL reefer employer.
Can hardly contain our excitement, well at least mine.

Welcome Fly'n !!! I wish your significant other the best in his upcoming pretrip / driving test. :)

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

The same for SpartanGuy. I do all of the shopping in our household. You can save a lot on the things that you regularly purchase. While I do not buy a TV every day, I do buy all of our shampoo / toiletries / auto maintenance items / kitchenware / electronics / toys / etc there. Plus, I shop on-line a lot for items not in the store, and buy a lot of stuff there, which you use your discount for also. Plus, the Christmas time 10% off of everything is invaluable. Also, depending on your cell phone carrier, you will get a discount with them (for Verizon, it is 20% off of Rick's part).

Yes, I realize the medical will not come close. There are many other things involved though, one of which being the respect you will be treated with, that have no pricetag. I wish you the best of luck.

Well, put an app in three weeks ago for Hopkinsville Ky DC. Friday got a call to set up an interview for next Thursday! Needless to say I'm on cloud nine!
Had a call to set up an interview for St James,Mo a few months ago, but it was 242 miles from home and I thought that would be hard to handle. I told them that I would wait for Hopkinsville DC.
Talked to a driver out of Hopkinsville the other day and he said" if you get a call for an interview, you pretty well have the job if everything is right on your app. And can do good on the pre trip and road test. I was the driver trainer for a Co. in Nashville for five years, so I hope I know what they are going to look for. My blood pressure and blood sugar are great which he said was the most important thing on the physical.
I hope he knows what he is talking about!
Any info would be appreciated from you all .Wish me luck on Thursday.
