Walmart here I come!

The safety manager that gave me my road test told me they just wanted to "see" me do a pre-trip. I was told I didn't need to call out everything that I was looking at or doing like you do with the Department of Motor Vehicles. I did open the hood, check oil, did a silent visual check working my way around the vehicle. I did a quick air brake alarm, wiper and horn test inside. That was sufficient in my case.

 

Ya I just wasn't sure if it was one of our paid holidays I can't find my little white book

 

New Years, Memorial Day, 4th July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

 

It was 2 months after I applied before I got the call. My orientation is June 27th. Can't wait to get started. Don't give up on them, they take their time Good luck.

 

The man at Hopkinsville,Ky that did my pre trip told me that " if I didn't tell him what I was checking, he would not check it off on his sheet! I guess everyone is different.
What was hard for me was the thirty minute time limit! It takes time to call out each thing that you check! He had me go over the truck first, then hook up the trailer, then check everything on the truck and trailer. (lights, brakes, etc) I was at the back of the trailer and he said" you have ten minutes". It takes much more time to call out things then to just look at them!
Like I said, everyone is different.
I passed everything and am waiting for the background check. Was told, we would start the class sometime in late June.I was told last week that they would give us time to give our employers two week notice. Looking forward to working for Walmart! Good luck to everyone!

 

We're supposed to be nearly identical from DC to DC, and for the most part we are, but as you just pointed out we're not in everything. They flew in a regional safety person to do my road test because the safety guy assigned to the DC I tested at was out on LOA. I did my pre-trip in 10 to 15 minutes, and as you pointed out there's no way you can do it that fast calling out everything. The road test route had some nasty surprises that often led to people failing, but I took my time and dealt with each challenge properly. From application to orientation was about two months for me, and I did have time to give my previous employer two weeks notice.

You are probably going to feel a bit inundated with information at orientation. Don't let it worry you. You're not expected to retain everything thrown at you. Nobody gets mad at you for forgetting something or not punching a code in right. There will be a team of people fixing your mistakes in the background without you even knowing it. There's no pressure to get everything down perfectly in a specified time period when it comes to the little things like paperwork and computer codes.

And just to add, if you ever have a question don't be afraid to ask. The senior drivers, your coordinator or ops manager will be more than happy to help. There is no pressure here just take your time and it will all come to you. I have been with Walmart for just over 90 days and I love it, you will be asking your self why didn't I do this sooner.

 

Just asking,did they tell you about the driver facing cameras that are in the near future?

 

There are no plans for inward pointing camera's in the near future. Tractors with outward pointing camera's are already arriving. Many are already paranoid about that progressing to inward pointing. It may happen someday, but not in the next year or two.
