Tom, I have been using Google maps for aerial views of shippers and receivers for the last couple years, and find it invaluable for a view of the stores. Google maps can be a truck drivers best friend...it certainly is for me!
Walmart here I come!

Right on Jim! It has been very helpful seeing the store property layout before going in, since each store is sort of unique.
It is also helpful seeing what food joints are near the stores too!
Boy Howdey and Buzzard2157 Thank this. -
First full week out running solo went very well. I ended the week with a long trip. I had a surprise in my mailbox when I returned to the DC last night.... a certificate for a free paid day off! Every week that we go injury free at the Sealy DC, they draw a name for the free day off. I was surprised to have won the drawing this week!
Boy Howdey, drozzer69 and Buzzard2157 Thank this. -
Good for you Tom !!! They don't do drawings like that at Buckeye. However, I am enjoying my safety days, and deferred holidays. I am back up to 1 safety day and 3 deferred holidays (had used 2 safety days for my little vacation).
It is so nice working for a place that you don't get penalized for taking time off. My X employer only paid $116 for holidays/vacation days. You would have to use 2-3 for one day off, to not starve.Buzzard2157, TomOfTx and Boy Howdey Thank this. -
Just got home a little while ago, had a very nice end to this week. I signed up for the Friday 1000 out flex, and I got it. Going to be real nice to not have to slip seat every week now. Also had my 90 day review, 25900 miles safely traveled and 131 trips completed. I was told at this rate I am on track to average out 524 trips in a year. That is above 450 standard. Had a nice breakfast this morning of coffee and stuffing my self with pastries. Later went to the gro. DC and had some pizza. This afternoon, closer to the evening, I had pasta with meatballs and chicken with mushrooms in a cream sauce. Needless to say if my productivity goes down this week, its because of all the food I ate is weighting me down!
It is so nice to be TRUELY appreciated.
Starting in the next week or so, we are having our truck rodeo! Can't go to nationals because I don't have year yet. That's ok, I don't thing I will get that far but I will give it try to see how I do! Night all and be safe and Thank you for all that you do!Extreme4x4 and TomOfTx Thank this. -
Matt, I am really happy for you! You certainly deserve it considering how well you have been doing since you started.
I was hired on at a time where there has been food everywhere! I had to go home for a few days to go on a diet! Sub sandwiches when I return on Thursday!
Extreme4x4, drozzer69 and grabberblue12 Thank this. -
I just applied online with Apple Valley! Wish me luck. Like I said before, Apple Valley called me for an interview last year, but I turned the interview down, just too much going on in my life at the time, wasn't the right time for me to make a career move. Now is much better.
drozzer69 Thanks this. -
^^^ All Right !!! Good luck to you !!!
Matt, good for you on the program. It seems like your DC has enough movement to allow you to move up much faster. Here at Buckeye, you can be an "extra" for years, since they hire so infrequently. Bill (GTM) wants to get down to 160 drivers. After that, I don't know how long it will take before they would hire. In our last Bulletin we did have 3 retirements, 1 transfer out, 1 switch to another company, and one "other." So, the numbers are coming down.
Frankly, it doesn't matter at all to me. Since starting here, I have gotten more work done on my classic car, than I have since I bought it in 1987. So, my shift just determines when my Monday is, and when my Friday is. Starting Nov 3rd, we go on mandatory "extended week." That will be the first time for me.
Tomorrow is Sub day. Woohoo !!!
I have a feeling the inside of my truck will smell like a sub sandwich. My start time is perfect for it. Then Friday is "dog day." Chili dogs, Coneys, regular dogs, Chicago dogs.................. we be eatin good !!!! The wife will not have to buy as much food for me (I take it with me). LOL
Jrdude5, Buzzard2157 and drozzer69 Thank this. -
I have 17 guys below me in less then a year, have about 5 in front of me transferring out in jan. most of the ones below me will alos transfer out after there one year. and a few retiring.
-
Yes Sealy had a lot of movement. It is the front door for our company. Many hire on here and transfer out. I know of one that will be transferring out in a couple of months and possibly two from my class depending on what goes on. I have a 65' cj-5 just waiting for me to finish it. I have other priorities I have to address first before I can start dumping money and time in to my Jeep. I will be back on Friday(my Monday) for the hot dog paloza! lol Best part about being where I am right now is that now, I am not the last one. Tom is. lol Its ok though, he wont be there long. We still need about 8 more drivers to be hired to be where Paul (GTM) wants our numbers to be at. We may also acquire two more trucks from another DC if and when that happens to offset the numbers as well.
