Don't let them scare you or run you off! I have worked union and non union jobs, I've worked for a big LTL company. While not the best company i have worked for its better then 99% out there. You will find most of the problems are due to lack of management oversight. Here at my DC our GTM is really involved as well as the op managers, while your slip seating they do their best to get you a truck for the whole week. I've been here 6 months, I'm one of those who moved cross country, I can actually say that I can count on one hand they number of times I had to move trucks during the week. As for dirty trucks we have 1 or 2 we have problems with but overall they are kept decent. Good luck and have a good career here at Walmart!

Here, our turn over has slowed. We keep our trucks very clean here. If the truck is too dirty, by all means bring it up to ops mngr and they can get another truck for you. Just remember if the dirty truck is for a week, the clean one may only be for a day or two. We keep our equipment moving so not many trucks will sit idle. Only the 3 million mile truck s sit when the driver is on home time. We have a great family atmosphere here in Sealy.

drozzer69, I couldn't agree more. Everyone I spoke to was very friendly, especially the safety manager that did my pti & road test. ONCE he seen that I knew what I was doing..

Sorry to hear that, unfortunately some people don't have respect for others and they don't have respect for the equipment they drive, some of the trucks I have gotten into were not up to par so I just took pictures and gave them to the operations manager. I have been slip seating for about a year now, and haven't really ran into any problems

I would agree with this completely. When Rick started, he would often be in 3 trucks for the week. That quickly became less and less, and before he got his own truck, the vast majority of the time he was in 1 truck all week. They worked real hard to do this as it also promotes more productivity.

There is always going to be a couple trucks that are not kept as you would. Keep track of those numbers, and if they try to put you in one, tell them no, and tell them why. If they get complaints on a truck, they will inspect it. They expect their drivers to conduct themselves in a professional manner, and that includes cleanliness and courtesy for other drivers. Maybe there is a DC or 2 that does not quite operate the same, but what he is talking about I have not seen much of on here, so I figure it is a pretty isolated case, or he is just angry (which is what it sounds like from his constant negativity on everything).

Sorry to say, but what you have seen in many of these trucks is probably a reflection of how the driver lives at home and is comfortable living in a pig pen. Since "Mom" is not working here, they do not know how to clean up after themselves! When I have needed to slip seat in recent years if my program truck was in the shop, the trucks I have used may not be up to my high standards for being clean, but I would not say they were ever dirty enough to warrant complaining to the Ops manager. I feel the management at my home DC has done what they can to make sure the drivers are keeping any equipment they use clean. When I have used a messy truck, I just make sure to spend even more time doing a pre trip inspection. If a driver cannot take the time to throw trash away, it is a good chance he is not doing a good pre trip inspection and there may be some mechanical issues that need repaired.

Speaking of clean trucks, last fall my HR manager asked me to come in the office to discuss something with her. I was pleasantly surprised that the driver on my program who uses the truck after me had nominated me for a "shout out" for how well I keep the truck clean and maintained! :)

If I use someones truck, I leave it in better shape than I found it. Cleaning up after some grown truck drivers is not much different than picking up after my two young kids! The only difference is my kids will eventually grow up! :)

Can't obviously speak your mind on here right Wallywife? Not sure what's wrong with telling drivers to avoid slipseating and to jump on a program asap. Things were different when your husband started, Walmart is changing practices and hiring more drivers to eliminate outside help. With this comes much more slipseating and less tractor availability.

There's a lot of drivers out here who have decent jobs currently and are on the fence if they should jump ship. I'm just helping give the bigger picture instead of acting like some sort of cult that forbids anything other than positive talk about Walmart.
