Happened to me before. Called the shop in Tobyhanna to see if they could walk me through possible solutions. When all options were exhausted I was sent to a hotel for the night. Was in Cortland, NY, and was about 20 degrees. No way I was trying to be a hero and stay in the sleeper.
Walmart here I come!

No, it's an alarm clock/calander.georgear1084 Thanks this.

I have my test scheduled for the 26th. On the pre-trip, do I have to name the stuff or can I just point to it? I have trouble remembering the names of the things I'm checking.
-
Just watch a pre-trip video on YouTube a few times. That's what I did. You'll be fine. One thing I will tell you is do not forget to check the DVIR. Good luck.
-
I did that but can't remember the name of everything. I can point to something and say looking for cracked, broken, or leaking.
-
some people are computer illiterate, I'm mechanically illiterate. I can build a computer but can't change my oil. lol
-
just put on some gloves and touch and say everything that you do. cant go wrong with that. congrats on getting the pretrip
-
I have to disagree. If he can't describe that he's looking at the brake drums, shoes and liners and tell what he's looking for I don't think he will pass. Need to point out the alternator, the air compressor and power steering pump and the hoses and belts connecting them. I don't think they are looking for your mechanical knowledge but you need to know what you are checking and why.Pharroh336 Thanks this.

thats what i was saying in short form. gloves on now im checking the belts(touch) now im checking the steering parts(touch). looking for damage, bent, broken, missing parts.
-
I went thru the pre trip, the checker was standing 15-20 feet away waiting to check off the items on his checklist when I called them out. I don't think it would be possible to just point and say not broken, bent or damaged, parts need to be identified which the op was saying he might not be able to do.
I wish him luck, but I can tell you from personal experience that it is a pretty stressful spot and I found myself spacing out looking for words and stumbling along at times. It's also pretty stressful when the examiner tells you that there are 11 minutes left and you haven't even hooked up the trailer and checked anything on trailer or done the in cab portion yet, LOL.kruz1980 and BigGreenHauler Thank this.
