I agree with what you say, but if a new-comer is smart they can start off on a good foot by doing some research. It won't be fun, but there's plenty of jobs that require you to unload the truck paying over 70k a year for someone fresh out of school. Just have to do some research and be willing to work harder than a OTR driver.
Walmart here I come!

Pay alone doent make a place the best. But the more a place pays the more a driver will deal with it seems.BackIsSore Thanks this. -
I agree with paying the dues to a certain degree (Seniority per time). For instance some jobs including A LOT of LTL jobs the better schedule and route the longer the driver been there. Then there's the jobs where the harder you work the faster you climb the ladder. Kinda like where I came from. I had only been there for 3yrs and was offered a management postion with the company all because I worked my butt off!!
Now stupid me being greedy and not looking into my future decided that the potential to make more money was more important than advancing my career was. Worse decision I've ever made. Hey, life goes on. We learn from our mistakes and learn our likes and dislikes and what works best for usLast edited: Feb 9, 2017

Let me say this, the biggest con working for Walmart Transportation in my case has been the fact they are the only company in my 25 years as a truck driver I have ever needed to file a complaint against with the EEOC. The case is still not settled yet, but I hold all the cards against Walmart now because several high level managers in Bentonville chose to lie through their teeth to the EEOC. Once I revealed recorded phone calls with these managers proving they not only lied, but intentionally discriminated against me, it became an issue of whether or not the six figure settlement amount being offered is enough for me to close the case. The reason I have not settled is because I am currently on a medical LOA and need to see if I can return first and the fact that Walmart wants to pay this large settlement in exchange for me resigning from the job. I foresee this case being pushed closer to and even into Federal Court because I have them dead to rights and can likely receive a settlement upwards of seven figures.
Now, with all the crap I have dealt with regarding this EEOC case, both from managers at Walmart and even other Walmart drivers here on this forum, I am able to compartmentalize this and not let it keep me from doing the best job I can when I am on the truck. I do believe drivers are treated well here, but as I found out, things changed when I called them on violating the law, so my current level of trust in the company is more of a trust, but verify.BackIsSore Thanks this. -
FYI there are a few people on this trend do you have extremely bad attitudes if you don't like it at Walmart if you don't like to pay at Walmart give your two weeks notice and go someplace else because a bad attitude is like a cancer spreads very quickly Walmart is the best driving job in the industry we haul her own stuff it's not the highest paying job I've ever had but is the best job I've ever had no one is forcing you guys to stay at Walmart and for those of you who don't have that kind of attitude I'm definitely not talking to you but those few that do if the shoe fits wear it

It's a good job, but that's it. Not the best, but it's a decent job. I like the people I work around, but the waiting for free at your home DC, standing out back waiting for someone answer a GR door, GR loads not loaded properly and switching trucks every other day with no compensation is stuff I'm allowed to not like tough guy. -

I have never experienced any delays more than 15 minutes at my home DC, but have experienced quite a few lengthy delays at other DC's. Sure, it may pay delay time, but $14 an hour is about half what my pay would be if loaded and rolling. The $14 delay time was in place when I started in 2013, yet it has never increased. If it were tied to your ADP scheduled time rate, that would be nice.
I can relate to delays waiting at some stores when delivering a grocery load. Some stores are quick, others slow as molasses. It is a crap shoot when going to most stores. It often seems like the delays are longer the fewer pallets you have to deliver. Some stores do an exceptional job getting us unloaded fast. It really depends on how good the manager of the store is, which is out of our control as drivers.BackIsSore Thanks this. -
