Not even sure if walmart has a true OTR department, seems to be mostly 3rd party still. The guys here in FL go out for the day, make 3 or 4 stops and drop a trailer and roll home. They aren't hiring for my area unfortunetly. Typical of Florida though.

I've seen Texas based trucks (Walmart) up in Wisconsin so they can sometimes play hopscotch for a few days. They strictly work for the general merchandise DCs and generally avoid the grocery DCs
-
I think it depends on the DC, Cheyenne is always hiring, but Loveland rarely has openings, they are supposed to be opening a second DC in the Denver area, so maybe they will be hiring again.

Walmart now monitors your cellphone usage to confirm you are not using phone while truck is in motion. Pre-hire you authorize them to access your phone records & they match those with your e-logs.rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

^^^^Wow...just wow. ...
My boss provides me with a hands free phone for business, which is great. Walmart should too, at that rate. -
Yep. Know a guy who got fired for sending a text while parked. However where he was he has no signal. The text was shown as sent when the truck moved into an area with a signal....and since he was on the drive line he was terminated.tscottme, Dub_ya307 and Getsinyourblood Thank this.

They also have inward and outward facing cameras, and are governed at around 65mph. Regardless what the benefits and pay is, the fact that they would fire you for having a phone conversation prevents me from ever wanting to go there
rabbiporkchop, mp8327, Dark_Majesty_06 and 5 others Thank this. -
You can be fired for any type of inane violation. They have a set list of rules that must be followed to the letter. One violation could be termination. Way too much micromanagement.rabbiporkchop, Dub_ya307, mp8327 and 2 others Thank this.

Starting to make a little more sense now, why Walmart is working hard to maintain a constant flood of new driver applications on the desk. When you expect your drivers to act like robots [with no life], don't expect them to stick around long or remain, "good money" or not.
I suspect Walmart has recently learned what the megas learned 15 years ago, as a company with a large truck driver base, you can save lots of payroll and benefit costs by keeping most of your drivers qualifying as low-seniority ("beginner" in the mega carrier world). Earning less wages, and paying higher benefit portion.
Imposing so much BS, it's easy to fire them at will, or force them to say "enough" and quit, before they exceed 1 or 2 years, and before getting into the higher wages and increased benefits tier.rabbiporkchop, tlalokay and bzinger Thank this.
