My advice? Listen to Chinatown. Dude is always pushing tanker jobs, although I swear he runs dry and refrigerated grocery by some of his posts! He knows his ####, and it would benefit you to look into the companies he lists.

Well, I've done many different types of trucking; van, flatbed, OTR reefer, local/regional food/grocery, & tanker hazmat.

Didn't really care for van or grocery reefer. Loved Flatbed OTR, Reefer OTR, Tanker/hazmat OTR.

For me, OTR anything is better than local, but that's me. I try to answer questions based on what the asked.

WitchingHour is right on about the local jobs. Ignore "experience required" and go after those jobs if that's what you want.

I am going to agree with what Chinatown and WitchingHour said about ignoring the "experience required" thingy. While you're at it, ignore everything else! :biggrin_25525: People in HR who write wish lists when looking for someone will listen to and hire almost anyone if they aren't finding the drivers they want or need. They have to move product to stay in business--that's the bottom line. If you come in the door to a company dying for drivers do you really think they will say "gee Bob, you only have 5 months experience and you need 6 to apply' ?

Finding a job is all about mathematical probability. If you apply to 1000 places this week I bet you would find a job ! Again, I agree with Chinatown--go beat the pavement until you need new shoes. Hang out at truck stops and talk to drivers. Check out Craig's list (I got my latest job there). Post online resumes, walk through industrial areas, etc.....get creative and energized !

Finally, a good resume is worth it's weight in gold. You should have a tailored resume for each employer--what is called a 'targeted resume'. Go to their website and learn what they do then tweak your resume to fit in with what you perceive to be their needs and interests. I know, I know....making a resume is a pain in the southern hemisphere but trust me, it's worth it !

    ....

Whoops! Just saw that you got a job! Fantastic !

Many successful job applicants will research a company before an interview and many times know more fine details about the company than the interviewer. If a trucking company calls you for an interview, do some research before the interview. Many trucking company websites have some interesting details about the company and customers.

Research everything, The Company, The head honcho, The phone number. Play Private Detective before you send off personal information. It's 2014. They will play private detective with you, You do the same.

Then walk into a brick and mortar and declare this is sparta :biggrin_25520:
