Thank you for this!!!
Sunny warm summer days, I'm in shorts and sneakers. If I need to be rolling around in the dirt, a pair of coveralls are ALWAYS in my truck, give me 40 seconds to grab them, and put them on. Last summer 75% of the time I was hauling fuel, or aggregate. Sunny day in the forecast, i had on a bikini top, and shorts, sandals or sneakers on my feet, depending on my. When the time came to get dirty doing manual work, coveralls went on, hair in a pony tail to keep it out of my face, and I was good to roll around under the truck, carry fuel hoses, unjam a rock stuck in the belly dumps gates, grease the truck, pry a rock out from between my duallies, or whatever task required me doing. I worked with people mature enough to not make one prejudiced ####### comment. A few comments were made about them wishing they had half of my energy, and no way they could keep up to me. When a fat old guy jammed his belly dump gates, it was me who jumped into his trailer with my 6' pry bar and got it out. I doubt despite his jeans and boots, he could have even climbed in and out of there. Well four more times last summer I helped him out with things. At the end of the long job building that road, he thanked me, and told me I was the best truck driver he had ever had the pleasure of meeting in his 40 year career. The contractor told me that his crew all agreed when telling him I was the best employee on that job. I have many fuel customers ask for me specifically to haul their fuel. One couple who are a service station owner, told me that in their 32 years of owning the station, I was the best fuel truck driver to ever deliver there, of the many dozens who had. They never once judged me because I wasn't wearing jeans, boots, whatever. Nobody at the refinery has been judgmental either when i pull in to load. Loader operator at the gravel pit asked me on the radio why I was the only driver who could hit my mark every time, pull ahead the exact right amount, on time, every time, without even being told to, and was always happy, not something to complain about. I was substantially younger than the other drivers on that job.
I said to Peter, the loader man, its easy, and common sense where you will want me to stop. Once you put on the first 3 buckets of dirt, i pull ahead about 10', count 3 more buckets, and by the time you are backing up after bucket 6, I drive away, its elementary. Other drivers listening on the radio were silent. The boss lady in the office then commented that I was the only driver to pull confidently onto the scale every time as well, stop at the exact right spot, jump out of my truck, and open the scale shack door before my ticket was even done printing. Once done printing, she tore off my copy, i grabbed it, said thank you to her every time, a few running steps later, bounded back into my truck, was putting my seat belt on left handed, punching the park brake button right handed, slid the truck into gear, and was gone. Her exact words were "Pam can not only load quickest under the loader, but she can scale in 7 times, in the same time the rest of you can do so once. Guys, you're looking bad out there, time to step your game up'. If the loader was stopped for lunch when I got there, Peter didn't mind me jumping in and throwing a load on myself. If the scaler was gone, I walked around the back of her counter top, grabbed a sticky pad, and wrote down my gross weight, the time it was, and signed it Pam. Next time I came in, she gave me 2 tickets. When i got to the job site, I told the manager that I had no scale ticket for him, next load he would get 2. I hauled more loads per day than any other truck on that job, and the guy on the grader also told me that my dumps were by far the most accurately located, of any truck hauling, saving him time, and the company money.
And to think that I could do it in shorts, sandals, and a bikini top. Being old school, doesn't necessarily mean that you are doing it the best.
Just like those old school 200 hp trucks, with rubber block suspension, are not better than a modern air ride 500 hp truck.

Now now there...some of these old school drivers might go from smoke coming out their ears to downright flames coming out their nostrils. Gotta be the way it always was or it's just not right lol.homeskillet and Pamela1990 Thank this.

homeskillet Thanks this. -
You don't spend enough time in the States. Live here. Live in a major city. You'll be eating those words. The people that dress a certain way are the most dangerous on the interstate. I see it every single day. It's not bashing how someone dresses per se but those that do dress a certain way are responsible for 90 percent of the nonsense I see routinely.LoneRanger and homeskillet Thank this.

I ain’t gonna make excuses for them. It’s a cultural thing. They drive like that where they from that’s why. But I agree.ProfessionalNoticer Thanks this.

Absolutely and many are only here on a work visa temporarily so they could care less about thier driving record or even the legal consequences of their actions.NYStarcar Thanks this.
