80% of what rate? 80% of a dollar is only 80 cents, while 65% of a dollar fifty is 97.5 cents. Don't let percentages fool you. Higher percentages seldom mean higher revenues. That's an age old trick to make people think they are getting more.

I've done percentage for years and I prefer percentage. But, I got to grin when someone starts telling me that they are making so much more, with their higher percentage. Then we compare actual rates and it's like HUH?

    I seriously wouldn't mind a percentage.

At least when I get stuck sitting I'd "still be getting paid" as I was still under load.

i like percentage cause it is the work smarter not harder idea, with a cpm contract the more miles the more you make but the more cost you have

i will say the word "gross" gets thrown around alot when working for percentage, be careful and get the base and accessorial numbers broke down and see what your really making

My empty weight, full of fuel, 12-3/8x20' chains, 12 binders, full steel tarps, 20 straps, tool box, ladder, on and on and on is only 29,575# and that's in a Western Star with a C15 pulling an all aluminum 2012 Fontaine Revolution.

As for the Landstar thing, I'm doing very well over here. I have a brand new trailer that I rent for $155wk from them and they take care of ALL maintence on it. I could not have bought the trailer for what I'm paying.

Loads are very good, rates have been on the upswing quite a bit here recently and there are a lot of loads going back into MI from most of the Midwest.

SHC, I wasn't aware that LS had any kind of trailer rental deal available. Can you tell me more about that? Are you married to that trailer, or is it a blanket rental cost, and you do drop & hook stuff?

Yea, he's married to it until he quits paying rent, or it gets old enough to be cycled out of the fleet. Then he gets first dibs on buying it. Stepdecks are $170 per week. No d&h with them. I thought about renting, but decided to buy, instead. My payment is about the same as his rental, but I'll own mine, in the end and it came from the same factory with the extras that I wanted.

You might consider Mercer out of KY.
You literlaly choose your own loads and see the pay before choosing. I average almost $2. a mile to the truck with plenty of miles. I pull a step but straight flats do better here.

When you say $2/mi to the truck are you talking all miles (loaded & empty), or just loaded miles?
