Hey everyone,
Im new to this forum, but I've been doing a lot of research on the trucking industry and its brought me here! I just recently turned 21 and I don't want to waste any time getting my cdl and getting on the road. I have been reviewing my options over the last year or so as far as independent trucking schools or going with a company that will cover the up front fees of training. My quest of knowledge has led me to Central Refrigerated. I searched for as many reviews of the company as I could and I was surprised with the number of positive reviews for central. And it seemed like the only bad reviews were from people who were... lets say... Not the brightest bulbs on the christmas tree. I looked between them and a few other companies and I feet like Central is the best option for me. I sent an application in and they called me back to set up a day to leave. I am some what nervous about the 2 or so weeks of training, seems a little short. I pick things up fast, but it seems like an overwhelming amount of information for someone who is brand new to this industry. So I guess what i want to know is is this a good company to start with as far as the training program? Or am I setting myself up for a $3000 bill, and a two week trip from hell?

The trucking school, any trucking school, is only going to give you what you need to pass the DOT tests, both written and road. Two weeks seems a bit short to me, but if you pay attention and learn, you should be all right. The real training takes place when you go out with your driver-trainer.
Make sure your trainer does his/her job and actually teaches you what you need to know. If your trainer sucks, and many of them do, request a new one immediately. -
you should go to a real school and then call watkins shepard trucking, you'll be a far better driver, make alot more money, and be able to land a local LTL job ahead of guys with alot more exp when they see Watkins on your resume...
