Idk about while leased to landstar. But their brokerage pays individually from each brokerage currently.

What if you the carrier you are leased to doesn't offer work to you? As in you pick your own jobs from load boards etc

People need to take responsibility for their own actions. Don't enter into business relationships with shady companies. Know what you're agreeing to, before signing. I don't understand why this stuff is so hard.

You're right there are companies and people that dodge tax liability and other regulations, but there are better ways to address that, than taking away our freedoms.

There's no way the big players of the the contractor business model will take this laying down ....as well as the truckload carriers assn., their attorneys mouths are probably watering now and will be trampling each other in a rush to the courthouse .

We would hope so, but I remember the same being said about the ELD mandate.

Sounds good on paper but I'm sure they are going to want a cut, probably whatever they were paying you in the first place, your using their DOT number and probably their trailer. So if you're getting percentage of the load you'd probably do ok, but not so great on a mileage rate if you have to share. You'd be getting the insurance advantages and fuel discounts still so does that make you an employee still?

No that was on me sorry I reread it again. But yeah that is an argument they would use to push for it. I think this is more to do with trying to push a bunch of pro-union laws regressing us a 100 years more than anything else.

There are so many what if's on this. Hopefully it dies or some really smart lawyer finds a loophole for the industry.

There are small carriers that operate like that now. All o/o leased under their authority, who find and negotiate their loads on their own.
