    WHO ME? Incorrect? Awwwwwwwwww.:biggrin_2557:
He was the one who was hooked to it when the defect was noted and written up by law enforcement. So instead of fixing HIS PROBLEM, HIMSELF, he ran away from it by dropping it and hooking to another trailer. Now, somebody ELSE is going to have to take care of a problem that developed when HE was hooked to the trailer.

If telling him that is an "attack," then I guess I'm guilty of "attacking" him. I stand behind my "attack" all the way.

Of course with out a difference of opinion, there would not be horse races or politics. . .:biggrin_25523:

Well put. I try to carry as much as I can and many times offer help to others along the way. 4-5 bolts and you're back in business. I know it's a company trailer and all, but why not just take responsibility and make the 5 minute repair. Don't mean or want to offend anyone, just my opinion on what I would do.

I agree. Hell, OP probably couldve found 50 mudflaps in that drop yard!

However, 5 minutes? Here's the two problems i had with changing mudflaps at werner..rusty bolts, and torx heads of a size that is not available at any truckstop (i think its t45 or something). The torx bolts were on most of our new trailers where the bolts hadnt been cut off yet....

But yeah, at one point i had three spare mudflaps. lol.

I think you did the right thing. I posted last week about bad equipment and everyone said park it.It is pretty common for office personnel to dodge their responsibilities. The fleet manager could have easily gave you another trailer and told any other driver not to take the trailer that was missing the mudflap. It is the managements responsibility too see that their equipment is maintained. P.S. but who gets the tickets.

Three pages for a mudflap, lol.

It's simple. Either you inherited the problem or you back against a curb and lost it. Either way, you should of caught it in a pretrip if you were doing your job. They don't just don't fall off. If you have a selection of empties, look at them before you hook and run.

Something fails a pretrip, you fix it. The passing the buck is for lazy drivers and reflects what kind of driver they are. Thank god doctors don't say "Ah, don't worry about it, let the next doctor fix it".

I fix more than my share of inherited problems by pulling in the shop or a TA/Petro.
I rather donate an hour or two and know my equipment is right.

You play the logbook game, you don't need anything saying "hey pull me over".

With CSA2010 around the corner you need to be the one with the mentality of taking care of problems rather than passing them on.

I'll never understand why some drivers will burn their sissy lights when one is burnt out. You're just saying, pull me over.

Sounds like a messed up company. Somebody dropped a trailer without a mudflap and didn't report it and tag it because the safety department doesn't provide or require that drivers use, out of service tags.Or somebody new they equipment was messed up then didn't answer his call for help. The mechanic may or may not have been notified of the problem. He stated that management is lacking assistance.

Ok this is ridiculous. The original poster shoulda gotten a mud flap and fixed it. If he didn't have the tools to do it, well now you know what those boxes on the side of the truck under the bunk are for. A "DRIVER" should always have some tools with him for emergencies. Granted I'm no mechanic but I am also not "above" getting dirty to get my butt down the road to my next load. If the problem is with the brakes or anything that can involve the "SAFETY" of the truck or trailer I will definitely get a "CERTIFIED" mechanic to fix it. But a mud flap? Come on, suck it up and get dirty fix the thing and go on your way. Now if the whole bracket was missing then driver you didnt do a walkaround or you werent paying good enough attention to your rig in my opinion. I hope you have learned something from all of this. If it is a "serious" problem the trooper wouldnt have let you move it out of state but to the nearest "safe haven" where you woulda waited for roadside to fix it. But a mudflap is NOT an oos violation unless you sass back to the trooper.

A missing mud flap is entirely different than bad brakes and other safety issues. Mud flaps come off trailers and tractors all the time. It's one of those things that happens. It's also a simple cheap fix that should have been dealt with instead of left for someone else to take care of.

I agree with you about the doctors. What the hell are sissy lights?

I have had a mudflap just fall off before! However, half of it was held on with bailing wire when i did my pretrip. I honestly figured it was good enough, didnt look much worse than putting a swift or jb hunt mudflap on a werner trailer. But it fell off. I had to replace it.

I agree. I keep a couple of screwdrivers, the $40 stubby ratchet set from TA, a $10 set of wrenches from petro, and a couple of screwdrivers and pliars. Plenty enough tools for any driver, and it hardly takes any room in the sidebox at all. I'll be adding an air gauge to the kit at my new job if they dont provide them like werner did...
