Actually 6+ years. My last job consistently paid over $1500 per week (0.47 x 3300 miles). If they hadn't installed driver facing dash cams I'd still be there, but I wouldn't tolerate that for any (realistic) amount of money.
And I think that explains the whole issue there. Anyone with 6+ years of experience going to a starter company, any starter company, there is something massively wrong with their expectations and/or record.
There's nothing wrong with my record. I can't disagree with you when you say there was something massively wrong with my expectations. I expected Swift to pay worse than most companies but to have about enough good points to balance out the negative. There were definitely some good points, but I found WAY more bad points than I expected. The pay, despite my low expectations, was even worse than I anticipated. Sounds like my expectations were off as you said. I don't see how that "explains the whole issue". The "whole issue" is that Swift's sign-on bonuses aren't real bonuses since they take that money back from the driver later on. This is a dishonest and sleazy tactic and I believe they deserve to be called out for it. I also believe people considering going to work for them should be warned about it. That is the point of this thread (aka the whole issue).
I mean, with six years experience in the industry you should know that sign on bonuses are always shady and you also could have signed on with a dedicated account for better pay if that was a concern. When I signed on with Swift my starting pay was 57 cpm plus my 5 cpm platinum pay (sorry haha) so I was making 62cpm from day one. That was in 2015. For anybody reading this considering Swift I have to say I never had any real issues with my pay. It was always what I expected. Anyhow, sounds like you have other opportunities available so that’s a good thing. You’re not the first or last person to be unhappy with your time at Swift. Good luck to you in your future endeavors.
I know I'm late coming here but bonuses are just that. They are not required pay so the department of labor will not be able to help you with this. You are not ENTITLED to a bonus. I've noticed the OP never came back and said he won his case. I can tell you why. The DOL deals with companies who don't pay their employees actual wages that they are legally required to. No company is legally required to pay a bonus, so they are exempt from DOL regulations. He sounded all big and tough though.
You have no idea what you're talking about and you're extremely rude. There's a difference between a DISCRETIONARY BONUS and a NON-DISCRETIONARY BONUS. Google it before you go shooting off your mouth about things you clearly know nothing about. My case is pending and I will easily win.
I can't say I disagree with your statement. An actual bonus should be on top of everything else, not leveraged against another bonus or other conditions.
It's been a month with this thread, and I personally find bonuses a pretty reason to quit a company. For OTR, freight and miles are all that matters, if your paid cpm.
