Well so much for privacy. In case anyone would like to know if the police can search your phone during a stop, well the Supreme Court just ruled they can and without a warrant. Nice to know we have lost the right of privacy. If they can do that to a cell phone which is nothing more than a mini computer than our laptops will be next. Btw, I am not making this post as a political post but as a post to many questions about whether DOT can search our phones. Well I guess they now can.![]()

Have a link?
This is all I found and it hardly has anything to do with a traffic stop.

Where did you hear this? Last I heard it was merely a petition by the Obama Administration to allow warrantless searches.
-
I found it at our local news here in WV and it is funny I can't find it anywhere else but I do trust our news. So I will keep looking though the answer was related to a 2007 case but now opens up with their decision that cops may do warrantless searches without breaking our fourth amendment right. This will get out of hand quick.

Your local news agency kinda did some bad title work there I think.Nexwinner and 900,000-tons-of-steel Thank this.

I have searched everywhere and found that Obama has asked for the court to rule but can't find the actual ruling. Appears either our TV station got it wrong or they know something we don't.

Packrat I would agree with you....maybe they should have put a question mark at the end. I will say this, everyone here is already up in arms about it...many very ticked off people.

This deals with a phone that was seized during a drug stop, not a traffic stop.
Read the link I posted. It deals with the phone when the guy was arrested and not listed in a warrant. -
Actually the new request by the admin deals with any stop. Even though my news station jumped the gun, here is the link where the admin is asking the court to allow warrantless searches on phones. It will definitely effect trucking if a DOT can ask for your phone and look in it.
Here is the Link: http://jonathanturley.org/2013/08/2...-to-allow-warrantless-searches-of-cellphones/ -
Have you not read your link?
It deals with the phone when you are ARRESTED.
