Why did you not stay right as it went from 2 lanes to 4 lanes? Usually there is a speed limit increase when the road lanes expand and the cars are Always chomping at the bit to jump left and accelerate.

Starting a thread titled "was I in error" tells me that you yourself think you were in error.
Just learn from it. None of us are perfect. Remember from the smith system; Leave yourself an out.
Glad no wreck occurred. -
When traffic in front of you is stopping, brakes (yes that's how it's spelled) first then look for the lane change. You were wrong, nobody was hurt, live and learn.

If I look in my mirror to change lanes and at that time it is safe I will hit the signal and carry on to the next lane... If I see the cars front end who is behind me suddenly lift off the ground because they decide to floor it im still coming in the lane... We have all had people sit behind the trailer for miles on end not wanting to pass and within a second of your signal they decide to be in a hurry, in my experience when this happens I don't signal right away I start to take the next lane then signal...normally they floor it to the left and hammer on... that text message is done they are on the way for a couple miles until they get there reply and you end up blowing there doors off

I thought some perspective from "outside" of the political thread might be nice. I know a lot of members here don't go into that section.tinytim Thanks this.

The input by you folks is greatly appreciated though.

This.
Space management is important and as a 14 year vet you're expected to know better.
I'm glad everyone is safe and you left with your license. Preventable accident would've undoubtedly been the verdict.truckon Thanks this. -
It's so terrible that a turn signal has become a sign for reckless drivers to gun it and cut you off now a days.
When I was learning to drive my dad taught me to signal before looking. So the moment my mind has decided I want to turn or change lanes I'm signaling before looking to let others know of my intentions as early as possible.
Seems to be the norm today to look to see if your clear then at the last possible second signal just to cross the line and avoid a ticket.
I wonder if people continue to condition this poor behavior because when they do signal too early they just end up getting cut off and left stuck in that lane while 5 or 6 cars all start to hammer down because they cant be inconvenienced by letting off the throttle for 2 seconds.gentleroger, truckon and rich_t Thank this. -
I have a lot of trucks speed up when I signal as well.
