My take is a bit different. I don't care if the other folks get paid, I am!

Usually it's management's fault that a driver doesn't get unloaded in the order that they arrive. I worked for a local printing company that was really bad about doing this. A driver would arrive first thing in the morning with a load... then shortly thereafter several other trucks would arrive and, of course, production needed that product immediately which pushed the first driver back further and further. This happened every day.

All of this stemmed back to poor ordering and scheduling on the part of management. Of course they never wanted to admit fault and the last thing they worried about was a driver waiting not making money.

Gawd... I'm happy to be rid of that place :biggrin_25525:

I've had loads where the lumpers got paid more than the driver....

I'd have had the truck wash spray the out side off, trailer wash or whatever. Washing out the inside? Hire someone. I am not a cleaning lady. If they didn't like that, they could unload it as is, or I could unload it wherever it lands. Either way, I would be on time for the next load and would not have to deal with their stupidity ever again. And it sounds like the broker was a douchebag anyway so write him off too. Two birds, one stone, efficiency.

High marks for staying professional though. I can only pretend to have that much patience and I can only do it for so long.

I had Lowe's ask me to pull out and let another truck come in to the dock so they could unload first. Sure as long as you realize its detention and I have been here 2 hrs. suddenly I was empty.

I've used the detention line before, go in act all concerned (mostly cause I was parked a foot away from the dock since 9pm the night before and got woken up at 1am to back in) and they still weren't done by 10am and the appt was for 8am at ikea. Just wondering what's up? Concerned about you guys getting charges detention pay, oh don't worry bout that driver, we kept another guy here 16 hours around a week ago...
