Is it really that important where the headquarters is located? I work for a company west of the Cascades, north of Everwet and I live in Kansas.str8rida Thanks this.
-
But I can get home more with a company based in my back yard..
-
You could get home the same as long as they have good freight near the house. Where you are located is really good for freight

If it only worked that way. I worked for a company literally 5 blocks from my house, never made it home. Now I work for a company 2000 miles from my house and I'm by there almost every week and could be home every week if I choose to.

My friend went to work for Sherman Brothers right out of school in the 90's. He says if he gets behind the wheel again, it will be his first call. However there may have been changes since the Keith and LeRoy days!

System Transport said no. So, back to the drawing board. I think I'm going to have to go to Knight Transportation for a good 6 to 12 months. -
What reason did System give for saying no?

To low of miles, I only have 4500 miles. I was the only one out of 12 people to graduate in my lewiston idaho training school for swift. Then I went with a mentor for about a week and a half. Went from washington state to new york then back thru a couple southern states.
I think its stupid that companies want two years or one year experience. What happened to the days of " BOY " " GO GET IN THAT TRUCK THERE AND GO HOOK UP THAT TRAILER OVER THERE "... Then off ya go.
There is way to many rules for truck drivers. On top of that every single truck driver is under paid. Even the top guys are under paid.
I was a sheet metal worker for over 15 years. I make 44 dollars an hour. Close to 100,000 dollars a year if I were to work all year. The starting wage for a material handler in our trade is 17.50 an hour. Which is 36,400 dollars a year. Working for 251 days out of the year. A new truck driver wouldn't touch that there first year working for Swift or Knight transportation.
After 5 years of an apprenticeship you make over 100,000 dollars. Which doesn't happen in trucking either.
My point:
WHY THE #### ARE THERE SO MANY RULES FOR SOMEONE WHO MAKES 25,000 DOLLARS A YEAR???? -
If you were making that kind of money and home every night, why do you want to give that up?
