Yeah, good guess Tex! But to me roll-off is a bit boring, just hooking and running trips to landfill all day long. I guess it also depends on the locale. How far away are you driving back and forth etc. Our guys pull only 5-8 boxes a day I'd say plus a few deliveries in between. But our landfill is only 4 miles out of town. You might try to ask one of the local WM guys there about the details.

Id say roll off is as stated above boring. Front load is probably the best.. rear load commercial is good but its time consuming. Typically FELs have more tickets to do because its faster. Its repetitive and complacency can get the better of you. FELs need to always be aware of their surroundings ie wires fire escapes etc.. all aspects of refuge is different and id say depends on what you like best....

Yeah, I guess I really like FEL because you're a little more busy throughout the day and the time goes quicker. I get out of the truck just enough to keep the blood moving and only 2 trips to the landfill a day. Once you know the routes it can be a little complacent so I'll change my pattern a little just to make it interesting. Working for a Gov. agency is nice because they give you a easily manageable amount of work. I can take my time if I want or get-r-done quick! I usually get more than half my first load, all traffic areas done so second load is a cake walk! :yes2557:

I just applied 2 days ago for a Roll-off position down in San Antonio, and got a call back yesterday... I guess they are in a hiring frenzy because I have no roll-off experience... I set up my interview for two weeks from now because I'm on the road. I hope to clear at least 1200+ a week because that will be the only way I take the position. Do you, or does anyone know if WM is union in San Antonio??

I just applied last weekend. Got called Wednesday by recruiter, went in for interview Friday, then immediately sent for drug test and physical (even though mine is good) and back to office. That was Friday afternoon and they said they'd be calling. I hope so, the job I took to get off the road is horrible. I'm in Seattle so WM is union and pays well with all benefits.

Unless u fail the drug test I have a good feeling you'll be getting a call tomorrow to report to work Tuesday.

Yeah no problem with tests. Went from a decade of military to 13 OTR no time to get into drugs. Lol

Well just got the "we're pursuing other candidates" email. For no reason. Clear drug test of course, great physical, and great interviews. I don't know what else they want, but they don't wan an experienced, hard working, honest employee it's no wonder moral is down. I will not be bothering with them again. I am well qualified and will not grovel to them over and over. I'll just keep looking at least I have a job!

    It's weird at WM.

Seems like they'd take a less qualified candidate if he was recommended by a current employee, over a more qualified one, without a referral....

At least that's what my uncles tell me, one of whom is at WM and the other at Republic Service.
