This news story dates back to November 2010, but I wasn't aware of it's existence until a friend forwarded me the link in an email.

The internet is one frightening place. This is the main reason why I'm against posting pics of myself online.

    AfterShock Thanks this.

New hidden threat? Maybe for people living under a rock for the past 10 years like that Geico commercial. EXIF data is not really hidden. All you have to do is move the picture to your computer, open it in an image editing program, save a copy of it, and post the copy. That or use something to strip the data.

But no, just turning your gps off isn't going to stop someone from figuring out where you are. Neither will stripping the data. I've seen people online figure out where and who someone is just from some innocuous object caught in the corner of the frame.

Not that that matters either. If you're really that paranoid, your only option is to dig a deep hole, pull a big rock over the top of it, and never ever come out for any reason. Course that didn't work for Saddam.
