No one on here will understand this but I have been doing this for 10 years with no problem.

I experience the same issue and here is the fix.

16x16 inch cardboard held on to the grill by a bungee cord. Take it off when the temperature get above 40

There is a lot of folks that believe, that's not factory designed or just not right.

And in the summer time it's good to remove the thermostat. You don't want 210+ degree temperature climbing a mountain in 90 degree temperatures. Crack a head, turbo, hose...

I take this back, first change the water temp sensors then the thermostats.

If he looses heat going down the road it’s a thermostat.

Yeah but I thought about this this morning and think that changing out the temp senders should be done to ensure that the gauge and ECM see a correct temp.

I had a car that the gauge was showing it always cold, taking the temp at the hose coming out the engine, the temp was cold but not cold like the gauge showed.

so because he has the system drained to replace the thermostats, might as well replace the sending units.

Fix it now, it causes problems with the oil and sludge, not to mention increasing wear in the cylinders.

I probably would, I went from AZ to IA with a thermostat that was stuck open.
