No one on here will understand this but I have been doing this for 10 years with no problem.

16x16 inch cardboard held on to the grill by a bungee cord. Take it off when the temperature get above 40

I had a car that the gauge was showing it always cold, taking the temp at the hose coming out the engine, the temp was cold but not cold like the gauge showed.
so because he has the system drained to replace the thermostats, might as well replace the sending units. -
