I'm still here...nobody got sent home...unless they wait to the end to say good bye......but we went over trip envelopes and qualcomm stuff today...went over the homework that we had over the weekend...the "trainer"...was absent yesterday...so we all went to the terminal and found out...called him...took some info and we all went to the hotel to study together...so basicly yesterday was a day off for us...so we had some catching up to do...by the way...you know any good truck GPS's that won't cost me $500?...i don't wanna spend that much money on a GPS if i can get a good one cheaper...

where the hell was he??? i had a problem on friday and tried calling him and he wouldnt asnwer the phone...
the one i have is the Garmin Nuvi, ran me about 280 from best buy, but i was able to talk him down from 500. im not really sure of any... but if ur looking to get one, make sure it has a TRUCK setting, if it does not, dont get it, others will chim in and say things like:
" i have the tomtom, withOUT truck setting and it works just great "
" my non TRUCK friendly gps works just fine "
my best advise is to find one with TRUCK on it.
shop around, youll find one. -
Hello all... Looks like I may be starting with W/S in early Feb. I have my CDL already but am wondering if they sent you guys on a loaded run over the Rockies in the middle of winter? I mean I think I will be OK and all... but it sure would be nice to have someone with you the first time you do it LOL... I just can't see them throwing me the keys and saying go for it dude LOL... I am also wondering if they ever do runs to Canada and wondering what I would need other than a passport to be able to that.
-
RY, yes they do go to cananda... youll need to get your passport in order to do that.
if you already have your cdl then more then likley youll be heading up to Sayreville NJ for a 10 day orientation, and then they will throw you the keys and say go for it dude...
they expect you to no how to already drive, and if they feel as tho you are not ready they wont hire you, but usually they hire most people, but thats up to you -
I tried to post a link but my post count is too low. GOOGLE dieselboss. They have copilot for laptop and also copilot on a standalone gps unit with a 4.3 inch screen with most if not all the features of the laptop program.

...in one of the papers they gave me to sign askin about how i found out about the company...i put your name...so if i was you...i would call MT in a day or two or whatever saying they just hired me and just making sure you get credit for the new driver...but they truck hunting...so might have to go home for the weekend...or get info on a truck tomorrow...don't know...but on the GPS...i really can't find much options on the GPS's...i can't find any that says it has the "truck" setting...i seen some at the truck stop the other day but i forgot to price them...plus they didn't seem to have much of a selection...do i get a chrome CB like yours for a graduation present?...

hmm....about the gps, they are a bit pricy at the T/S, but just shop around, you dont need to rush, when you get your load assinments they will give you directions, but they are from ZIP to ZIP, so youll have to call the reciever and get directions from the highway.
ill look around, and if i see anything, ill let you no what i come up with.
about the CB, about 165 at the T/S, but all of w/s trucks come with CBs. but i would work on getting a GPS first.
since you have a laptop, you could buy something like Co-Pilot from the t/s they run around 80 bucks, but thats just for the software, they get a lil more expensive if you get the live turn by turn ( talking as you drive ) but if you get something like that, or even PC MILLER, which is what w/s useses to route the drivers that could work to.
im in sayreville now, but im heading out in a few hours, back to NY, for thurs and friday, im planning on being back rather early on friday. ill let you no.....err... i gotta PM you about something... -
Just keep ya eyes open for me...and yea i know they come with a CB...but when i can afford it after i buy everything else then i'll wanna upgrade the CB to something more that looks up to date...
