Hi - I called WKSH earlier to find out some info about working OTR for their company and was told that I would be a Watkins Shepard driver until Jan 1, at which point I would be working for Schneider.

Does anyone have any additional info about this? I know WKSH was bought out by SNI last year, but was under the impression that they would remain their own division under the Schneider umbrella. This is for an OTR Truckload position...not sure if it's only truckload that'll be going all Schneider or their furniture/carpet delivery segment as well.

You will be a Schneider employee come Jan 1, 2018. Watkins will be no more as of that date.

Yep that's true. That why I left too lol. The Schneider BS was getting real deep so I figured it would only get deeper. So i went to work for one of their competitors figuring business here would pick up Jan. 1 lol

It's really too bad. I was attracted to Watkins Shepard due to their training, where there is no riding with a trainer and teaming for weeks on end, and also because of being able to do coast to coast runs and get lots of miles. Initially I had interest in Schneider as my first company, but after hearing about so many people getting 2000 miles or less per week, bare bones trucks, plus their refusal to quote what their CPM and accessorial pay would be, I put them on the back burner.

    The search continues.

They are not a terrible company. But come Jan 1 that training will change to Schneider way so if u are going u better get in there. I would go back if I had to. They were really good to me. I just don't like the changes Schneider was doing but some people may not mind. Especially if you were there before the change. Watkins trucks mostly have fridges, and they did allow inverters but idk about now.

Look at Abilene motor express or Magnum LTD, both are awesome places to start fresh out of school. None of the megafleet BS.

I met Mr. Sheppard in Lewiston, Idaho several years ago when I was on a motorcycle vacation. Really nice guy.

Youre one of several people that has said SNI is refusing to quote what they're paying now. I wonder what is going on

It's unfortunate in lots of ways how every industry is having smaller businesses bought up and everything is becoming mega.

When I called the 800 recruiting number for WKSH, I was quoted a cpm rate and given an overview of what pay would be. When I spoke with a SNI recruiter, I was unable to get a cpm quote or any idea of how I'd be paid, other than them saying that there are many things that make up pay.

Here is the nonsense that their (Schneider Jobs) website states about pay:
How Many Cents Per Mile Does Schneider Pay?

So, how many cents per mile does Schneider pay?
$0.33, $0.43, $0.53 or just about anything in between.

That’s why it’s so important to look at the entire pay package with each driving job you explore.

An Over-the-Road driver can rack up massive miles. A Dedicated driver could pick an account with live unloads. A Tanker driver will be rewarded for the built-in accessorial pay that comes with that type of freight. A local Intermodal driver will primarily get paid by the load and by the mile.

Instead of asking, “How many cents per mile does Schneider pay?” try asking, “How much can I expect to earn on this Schneider position with my experience level?”

But here is the kicker in all that. When u call the wksh recruiter, u are talking to a Schneider recruiter reading off a piece of paper. Start asking hard questions and they can't answer them or will answer but won't be the truth.
