Watkins Shepard After Orientation

I have the RM 510, it sends me on some strange loops sometimes, doesn't know where scales are, thinks there's scales where there isn't.. or in slightly different places. Also doesn't know all the rest areas -- particularly on state hwys. It's sent me down some no-truck roads and weight-restricted roads. (It hasn't sent me under a low obstacle yet, but I keep an eye out to be sure!.) Suffice it to say, its NOT 100%; so can't be relied upon. BUT for the most part its great. Especially for finding rest areas and truck stops and navigating throughout cities. I like how it breaks down my planned stops with miles and ETAs, including timezone changes.

I use my physical atlas to trip plan and to check that the qcomm routing isn't bonkers, and to get a better overview of my entire trip.

And then google maps (on my droid) for checking out ship and rvcrs locations via satellite image.

I use my windshield and paper for notes sometimes. Like when OMG MY GPS CRASHED.

Also use the phone to get directionsa and verify address/location even though I'm sure I know the way in.. this is a more recent development! I used to just drive in blind. Got tired of finding out I just went to their office not the warehouse. Or that the GPS thinks there's a road somewhere where there isn't.. anymore.

Oh and my eyes. These are great! Really handy for spotting street signs.

So ya, gps is just one tool.

The spotter thing is new.. I don't recall being told that during my orientatioin there. Guess it makes sense though..

Is it really that full in the yard that you can't even bobtail around? Could do that, practicing throttle control, shifting through the low gears at least.

 

the Rand McNally GPS IS a option on Paccar trucks (Peterbilts and KW's) its built right into the dash.....

the newer qualcoms have a gps built in (could be an option) I have microsoft streets and trips with GPS on my laptop the gps is kind of tough while driving but the map is great for planning

Greyhound's computers are down I may not be leaving till tommorrow I have to call back when they reopen at 3 pm.....I found a flight for the same price ..... should just book it
and ship everything except my clothes and buy a cheap sleeping bag at China-mart

 

well good or bad greyhound was up at 3 so im off to w/s in 3 hrs
