What's a seal? LOL
Many of those runs, if nothing more, will hone your skills as you'll be asked to back into the craziest of spots!...Whenever I get one of those runs, I expect some interesting challenges and haven't been disappointed yet! -
this isnt reefer work....These are small mom and pop furniture stores in small town usa. No docks, all on truck restricted roads, low bridges, weight restrictions, hand unloading furniture that weighs 4 times as much as i do while the 90 year old customer watches. Trying to get them all done in 2 or 3 days. Trust me its NO FUN! ya on payday its nice, but while your doing it its like WTF!
We dont seal the trailers....
American Truckerwalstib Thanks this. -
thats 100% true, anyone that has worked for W/S for any amount of time is going to be a skilled driver, PERIOD!
American Truckerwalstib Thanks this. -
95% of the "Training Companies" are going to give you a trainer with 6 months to 2 years of Experiance......No Skilled Captians involved...

Have you ever looked at something you're unloading and think "Who would buy this piece of cr.." and then you see the person who bought it standing there near the trailer looking all excited that it arrived? -
As far as Tim in conover? One of the nicest folks I've ever met and I seriously look forward to seeing him whenever I get there. I'm actually dissapointed when he's not around and I have to roll without getting to at least say hello to him. When I do see him, we have a blast swaping war stories and telling jokes. It's completely obvious "to me" the OP has either never met Tim or is just reall bad at reading people.
I get the "feeling" the OP has read so many GOOD accounts about WS that he/she just needed to throw a bad one out there....
Is WS perfect? No way. Are any of us? No way. We all have lots of room for improvement. But I know in my heart, I made the right choice going to WS for my first venture into the world of trucking. I've learned a great deal about this world in the slightly more than 6 months I've been driving. I'm pretty used to the company's "procedures" now and I feel here at WS, I've been given the room and patience to learn them without being looked down on if/when I made mistakes on paperwork or Qualcomm macros and such.
I've said it from the start and now after 6 months I'll say it again, WS isn't the highest paying company out there and in fact, is probably one of the lowest. But I'm treated with respect, a person (not just a truck number), and for me most importantly...an Individual. WS works with us on an individual basis meaning you'll get out of this company what "you" put in. I continue to find them very accomidating in meeting my needs for miles and any personal and family needs that crop up. Other than the common problems that ALL truck companies experience, to date I have NO complaints and will still recomend them to any driver and especially newbies such as I.
One needs to evaluate for themself how to quantify the "dollar value" of such a personal approach. I know how much it's worth to me and while making more "money" is always desirable, it's not everything and and I have never felt like I've been shorted in any way.
Others have mentioned they "suck in the new" with the fact that they don't send you out with a trainer. I'll agree with that as it's a large part of my own decision process. I also feel this is a good approach to putting new drivers in the seat. For me, I learn best and quickest when left to my own abilities and thought processes. When faced with a new or difficult situation, having to think for myself and figure it out "cements" the answer in my mind. Having someone "tell" me what to do simply means I'm following directions without "thinking the situation through". In short, show me once and leave me alone.
Again, this is what fits me best and others will have to make up thier own minds with an honest self-evaluation but, I'll feel thier approach is better as it basically filters out those that can handle being thrown in the frey and (think on thier "seat")...lol with those that can't.bulldozerbert, sammycat, walstib and 1 other person Thank this. -
i've delivered $3000 couches that I wouldnt put in my house if it was FREE! Everything we haul furniture wise is high dollar stuff, so not usually something you or I would by. I have a Broyhill couch at in my apt but its nothing like the stuff we're moving.

OMG I've never seen so much fugly furniture! LOLOL
And you hit it on the head Chris, when looking for companies, I found good companies and highest paying ones, they were never the same company so I chose the better company over better pay and have no regrets...chralb Thanks this.
